EVENT
WHO?
Residents who receive and pay garbage invoices from Rio Vista Sanitation have been submitting
Household Hazardous Waste fees in their payments and will not be charged additionally to make use of
this temporary event. All other Rio Vista residents (multi-family housing residents and Unincorporated
residents) shall be required to pay a minimum of $15 to dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste.
WHAT?
Household Hazardous Waste. There are many products around your house that contain hazardous
components. Such products may include certain paints, cleaners, stains and varnishes, batteries
(including automobile batteries), motor oil, pesticides, and fluorescent tubes. Residents of Rio Vista can
conveniently dispose of household hazardous waste safely, and conveniently at the disposal center.
WHEN?
Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or until filled to capacity
WHERE?
The disposal facility is located at the Public Works Corp Yard in Rio Vista at 789 St. Francis Way
REGULATIONS
State law limits the total amount you may transport in one vehicle to 125 pounds or 15
gallons. Wastes must be transported by a resident of the household which generated the
waste and is limited to a single drop off per event. The City reserves the right to refuse
waste beyond these limits.
OKAY TO BRING
Paint (stain, shellac, solvents, thinners, additives, oil based paint, latex paint); Adhesives (putty, caulk,
epoxy, mortar, stucco, cement, wood glue); Auto (fuel, waxes, batteries, additives, motor oil, oil filters,
antifreeze); Garden (sprays, fertilizers, ant trap, pesticides, herbicides, rat poison, gopher bait);
Miscellaneous (propane, pool chemicals, photo chemicals, acids and caustics, household batteries,
bleach and cleaners, fluorescent bulbs).
NOT OKAY TO
BRING
E-Waste, explosives, ammunition, radioactives, pharmaceuticals, or bio-medical waste (Sharps).
HOW DO I
PACKAGE IT?
For safety, we recommend residents to place the materials in a plastic tub or pail or a box lined with
newspaper in your vehicle's trunk. Pack the materials so they will not slide, tip over, spill or break
during transport. Once you are at our facility, Veolia staff will unload your wastes.
