“Freedom, Family, Faith and Community
Unsung Heroes of the Underground Railroad”
The purpose of this conference is to focus on the research about Harriet Tubman and
the Underground Railroad as represented by the rich, cross cultural, multi-racial, multistate stories rooted in intricate relationships based on family, freedom, community, and
faith. This conference seeks to provide a forum for historians, students, educators,
genealogists, researchers, community members, and artists to share and compare
research, historical methods, interpretation, curriculum ideas, and creative artistic
expressions with a growing community of enthusiasts.
We are seeking proposals focusing on Harriet Tubman and Underground Railroad
histories related to people, places and events of the Eastern Shore of Maryland
including the many pathways throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New
Jersey, New England and Canada. We encourage broadly conceived, or narrowly
focused presentations that inform, educate, challenge, and engage a broad audience.
We also encourage presentations that focus on genealogy and family history research.
Workshop sessions, panels, cultural/artistic activities, and media presentations
shall be one hour in length. All programming is expected to encourage and
facilitate audience interaction. Individual proposed programs will be considered
