In the accordance with the authors point of view on the theory building subject
and how it relates to Kuhn’s approach, I would like to write a few sentences on Kuhn’s
basic view.
Kuhn’s Basic approach
Kuhn's approach to the history and philosophy of science has been described as
focusing on conceptual issues: what sorts of ideas were thinkable at a particular time?
What sorts of intellectual options and strategies were available to people during a given
period? What types of lexicons and terminology were known and employed during
certain epochs? Stressing the importance of not attributing modern modes of thought to
historical actors, Kuhn's book argues that the evolution of scientific theory does not
emerge from the straightforward accumulation of facts, but rather from a set of changing
intellectual circumstances and possibilities. Such an approach is largely commensurate
with the general historical school of non-linear history. Kuhn: According to Kuhn
Textbooks are absolutely educational and they are in deed, credible, however; one cannot
draw the actual scientific purpose from the Textbooks (Thomas Kuhn, n.d.). I have
witnessed that a reader like myself was misled by the meaning of the Textbook and never
could gain the true purpose of the scientific article .

Kathrine EisenHart’s “Building Theories from Case Study research” as an
empirical research approach does not add to my understanding of International Business,
however; it was vey useful of my understanding of the research process and how to look
at a research paper from an observers eye when writing up my own research paper
whether the paper is about on International Business topic or on any other subject matter.

The article did not have any interest topic as the article was mostly focused on build
theories therefore more informative. The main advantage point of the paper was that this
paper describes the process of a theory using case studies, from identifying the research
questions to reaching closure. I find this paper very much relevant as I am looking for
more information on case study research and analysis as well as theoretical, empirical
concepts. The discipline this paper is drawing is that case study or research theory as any
other studies may have their own concerns, here in this paper we see that many pieces of
the theory building process are evident in the literature. Nevertheless, at the same time, there is
substantial confusion about how to combine them, when to conduct this type of study, and how to
evaluate it.
The concept of Fallibility in Organizational Science may not specifically add to
one’s knowledge on International Business, however; it certainly enhance on how to
perceive and start building the concept for organizational science which would absolutely
be helpful to add on one’s knowledge when it comes to international organizational
researches and behaviors. Since the paper focuses on how to form the concepts on
organizational science it is the starting of helping us to build a theory in International
Organizations as one is interested. To me the article is relevant since I am interested in
searching on different cultures concepts at organizations. The concept of Fallibility in
organizational science is not a new topic; it is a continuation on previously researches.
The methodology used in this paper interested me and I would probably use it in the
future in one of my researches. I am in the same set of minds with Jeffrey Pfeffer on his
article “Barriers to the advance of organizational science”. In this paper he strongly
supports Kuhn’s basic science theory as to the theory has to accumulate and does not take
place abruptly.

In one of the articles the author, Van de Ven, is trying to support the idea of
construct theories that can be used for social problems. What I have found on all the
papers was that the surveys are always a useful tools to support the conclusion that
integrative, conceptual and theory-building papers are important. These papers provide
direction and a basis upon which future empirical research builds
In conclusion, what I have learned is each author is trying to either establish a
new theory, definition for a theory, agree, or disagree with one another’s point of view in
the field of International Business. To my opinion some of the researches, methodologies
and ideas could be useful to myself such as Chimiezie’s methodology used in his research
paper on Organizational Science.
