Unit 2 What a day!
Content analysis: Unit 2 What a day! Story time. This material is for
grade 6 students. It is a diary for students to learn the new words and the
form of diary. It is very important for students to gain knowledge about
weather and past words after learning this diary.
Students analysis: The students have learned English for 3 years. They
are interested in learning English. They want to learn more about English.
They are active, positive, and full of energy.
Teaching aims:
Knowledge aims: learn the new words: sunny, windy ,cloudy, rainy, show,
honey. It was sunny / cloudy / windy / rainy. past words.
Ability aims: students can describe the weather fluently, can write a
diary by themselves.
Emotion aims: students can describe feelings about themselves.
Key points and difficult points: the new words; describe weather clearly;
learn to write a diary.
The thinking way of design: Under the guide of the outline, we teachers
must use different kinds of teaching ways to let students learn in a relaxed
and happy atmosphere. In my lesson, I will use communicative teaching
method, task-based teaching method, experience teaching method to
create the real and relaxed atmosphere for students to experience , then
they can grasp the knowledge and develop the abilities easily. After

finishing the tasks , they will be positive and successful.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warm up:
1.Free talk
T: Hello, boys and girls. Last Sunday , I was in the park. It was very
interesting. Do you know Taixing park? It's very beautiful.
[Purpose: Review past word (was) ,use the simple sentences to let
students know the differences between tenses]
2.Show a picture of Yang Ling. She likes writing diaries .
Show the first part of the diary:
T: This is a diary of hers—What a day!
Q:What day is it today? A:Sunday
Q:What date is it today? A:20th September
[Purpose: Teach students the style of diary]
Step 2.
Presentation
1.T: Look and guess
Look at Yang Ling’s pictures about the diary and guess.
a. Who are they? Where did they go?
b. What did the parrots do?
c. What did they do?
d. What did they have for lunch?

e. Could they have their lunch?
f. What was in the sky?
2.Show students some pictures about weather.
[Purpose: Teach: sunny cloudy windy rainy weather]
3.Listen and match
Give students some sentences about weather and activities.
(Eg. It was windy last Sunday, We flew kites in the park.)
[Purpose: Teach past words :go→went see→saw become→became
fly→flew are→were bring→brought]
4.Read and judge.(T/F)
5.Read and order.
Step 3.Consolidation
1.Give some key words and try to repeat .
2.Use some words to describe Yang Ling’s feeling about the day.
Step 4.Homework
Try to retell the diary according six pictures.
