1. Who this course is for and what previous knowledge / experience / skills we expect students
to have.
This is an open level yoga course which means that it is suitable for all levels. Beginners and those new
to yoga are welcome. Students with previous experience of yoga will also find some more challenging
variations for postures available to them in each class.
2. Course content
This classical Hatha yoga class will energise and centre mind and body. Includes a relaxation period,
asanas (postures), and a short breathing meditation. This class is open to all abilities to help improve
posture, balance, strength and flexibility, and explore the road to inner peace.
3. What students can progress to
The tutor will advise.
In addition, there is detailed information in Reception about all our courses at the Mary Ward Centre and
a library of prospectuses for other London colleges to help you continue your studies. If you need more
detailed advice, please ask a member of reception staff, and a half-hour guidance interview can be
arranged for you.

4. What materials students will need for the course and estimated cost
Yoga mats, blocks and straps are provided. Students will need to be dressed appropriately for physical
exercise. Tracksuit trousers, sport shorts or leggings; sport tops, t-shirts or tops that do not restrict
movement are all suitable options. No jeans, belts or shoes. No socks please.
Students should come to class on an empty stomach or have waited at least an hour after eating or
drinking to start class.
5. What students should be able to do by the end of the course
This is a taster to Hatha Yoga however, by the end of the 6 weeks students should be able to






Improve co-ordination of physical movement
Reduce stress and relax
Show awareness of body movements
Improve flexibility through the body
Control the breath for short periods
Be able to meditate for a few minutes
6. The teaching and learning methods we use on the course
The tutor will demonstrate postures for the students to follow. Verbal guidance and demonstration on
verbal adjustments

7. How we assess students’ progress on the course
Observation; answering questions; inviting individual comments on progress and feedback
8. What extra study/practice we expect students to do outside the class
The physical benefits of yoga will be enhanced by a regular home practice. Try to practise a sequence
as often as possible but at least once a week.
