CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES FOR THOSE COMPLETING ONU’S MAT DEGREE AND SEEKING TYPE 03, 09, or 10 CERTIFICATE Applicant’s Responsibilities: 1. Once MAT degree requirements are met, general education/endorsement requirements are satisfied, and all appropriate state tests are passed, complete Worksheet for Illinois Certification and submit to Graduate School, Amber Olney. 2. Official copies of all transcripts from previous schools attended must be submitted to the Graduate School to be included with the Worksheet. Later these transcripts will be mailed to the Illinois State Board of Education as a convenience to you. Please have all transcripts (except ONU) sent to Amber Olney, Graduate School. 3. Submit $5 check to the Graduate School to cover fee for ONU transcript. 4. When notified by email, complete electronic application for certification. 5. Register your certificate with a Regional Office of Education (ROE). 6. Follow instructions below. Instructions for Application Process: After filling in all appropriate information on the Worksheet, bring or send the form along with $5 check, payable to ONU, to the Graduate School (Amber Olney). Before a license will be processed and issued, your degree must be awarded and all certification tests must be completed with a passing score. Dr. Jim Knight, Olivet’s Certifying Officer, will review your Worksheet and transcripts and submit electronically the Entitlement Notice to the State Superintendent’s Office in Springfield. The “Entitlement Notice” lists the appropriate endorsements if you have met the state’s requirements. After the Entitlement process has been completed, you will receive an email message from Carol Reams or Gina Rupert in the Registrar’s Office stating “you have an entitlement certificate waiting for your application.” Time Limitation: If you do not then complete the application and/or your certificate is not issued within three years of the notification of the entitlement certificate, you will have to start the process again and may experience complications in attaining the certificate you are seeking. Upon receiving the email notice, log on to www.isbe.net/ecs . If you do not already have one, set up an ECS account. Log into ECS. Select the “Applications” menu item. Select the “Entitlement Certificate Application” menu item. Click on the “Apply Online” link to the right of your entitlement certificate. Follow the eleven-step wizard through the application process. If you need assistance with this electronic application process, please refer to the detailed instructions at Olivet’s School of Education Website http://education.olivet.edu/grad/links.htm. Your certificate will be mailed to the address you provide on the ECS system. Be sure to double-check the address you provided on your application. The fee for applying for certification is $75.00. You must pay by credit card, on-line. There may be a small credit card service fee. Instructions for Registration of Certificate: Your certificate must be registered in the county in which you plan to teach. If you do not plan on teaching right away, you should register your certificate in the county in which you live. To remain valid, your certificate must be registered in a County Regional Office of Education (ROE). This procedure can be done on the Educator Certification System (ECS) by selecting the Register/Renew menu item and following the eleven-step wizard. You may also contact your ROE for further instructions. If you are assigned a position in another region, you can log into ECS later and register for the other region for no charge. Other Suggestions: It is important that you obtain your Illinois teaching certificate immediately upon the completion of your program. However, since registrations are valid for each year beginning on July 1 of the registration period and ending the following June 30, it may be advisable to wait until July 1 to initiate the application process. At the end of each process, use your internet browser’s print button to print the last screen. You can also print the current Credential Screen in ECS for proof of certification and registration.
