PRESIDENTS REPORT
Grab your hooks and set your lines for the Kurrimine Beach Creek and Outer Reef Fishing
Competition which is only two weeks away! The weekend promises to be a highlight of the club
year as we prepare to celebrate the inaugural fishing competition with many club members and
visitors (potential club members) from far afield. Significantly, at this stage we have almost 300
anglers keen to wet a line and share in over $50 000 in prizes.
Special thanks is extended to members, committee members and the fishing competition
committee who have worked with great enthusiasm attracting sponsorship, making arrangements
for the comp weekend, inviting special guests to the presentation and generally sharing the load.
We are confident that our family friendly fishing competition will promote local businesses and the
many tourist attractions in the local region, reinforcing the community value of our competition.
From time to time every angler has a mishap wether it be launching, running out of fuel or finding
you high and dry at low tide. Recently Bob experienced such difficulties (see below) as he
navigated the inshore reefs of Kurrimine Beach! Members will also find below a picture of our
clubs treasurer and secretary on the new beast at a recent fishing comp meeting!
Do you reckon the eskies are full of fish or bait????

EPIRBs
All boats, including tenders, operating beyond smooth and partially smooth waters
must carry an Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio than two nautical miles from
land. EPIRBs should be used only as a last resort if the boat or crew are in grave
danger. Use other communications or signaling equipment first, such as marine
radio, phone. Search and rescue authorities respond to all activations, therefore it is
important to let them know immediately if assistance is no longer required. There is
no penalty for accidentally activating an EPIRB but remember to either radio the
local volunteer marine rescue organisation or call Rescue Coordination Centre’s 24hour emergency number on 1800 641 792.

“Heard the one about the three blondes that went ice fishing and didn't catch anything?
By the time they cut a hole big enough for the boat to fit in it was time to go home”.

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT
The warm tropical waters of Kurrimine Beach are currently teeming with fish of every variety, from
the whiting that the kids love to catch on the beach, and the kaleidoscope of brutish reef fish, to the
barramundi that the keen fisherman find in Maria and Liverpool Creeks and of course the hard
fighting mackerel. We must live in fishing paradise!
Whilst many members have caught their bag of Mackerel during the past month I was recently
reminded by an old salt, (Roy) that the Spanish are still normally lurking the local waters throughout
September. Good luck if you are wetting a line during the next few weeks.

Skin and Fillet Removal
Thanks to Kojak for reminding us about the Queensland DPI rules (page 72) in relation to filleting
fish at sea. In relation to coral reef fin fish, a recreational fisher:

must not possess, on board a boat, a fish other than in any of the following forms - whole,
gilled, gutted or filleted

may possess, on board a boat, a fillet of a fish other than a blue spotted coral trout (Chinese
footballer) as long as the length of the fillet is at least 40 cm, and the skin and scales of the
fillet are attached to the fillet

must not return fish to a boat that have been taken ashore from a boat and filleted, unless
the length of the fillet is at least 40 cm and skin of the fillet is attached to the fillet

Treasurer’s Report….
Well I have been keeping a close eye on the financial situation over the last
couple of months with a view to understanding how much our competition is
going to cost the club and I must say that with the current trends the whole
event is looking as if costs to the club will be quite minimal. By the time the
next newsletter goes to print I should be able to give all a summary of the
financial position and identify costs associated with the competition.
Memberships – Put your hands in your pockets !!!!
These are now well and truly due for the 2012/13 season. The “grace” period of
two months is now over with the commencement of September and as such
any members that are un-financial will not be able to collect if their number is
drawn at out for members draws on Saturday nights. Nor will they be eligible
for any members discounts that the club occasionally offers. YOU HAVE BEEN
WARNED!!!
Geoff
The Secretary’s Scrawl
There has been a lot of activity going on with the club over the last few months
so I would just like to thank everyone that has assisted in any way.
The Saturday night raffles remain our main source of income and still the same
people are devoting their time to do these. Unfortunately, the pub even had to
assist recently which won’t be able to happen next time. It is the intention of
the committee to approach members to assist with the raffles so if you are
asked please help in any way you can. Even if you just go down to the pub on
the Saturday night for the draw put your hand up to assist – your support and
help will be well and truly appreciated by all members. We will also attempt to
have greater consistency with the times of the draw, but it is difficult as some
nights are more difficult to sell tickets than others. Let’s aim for a 7:30 draw !!!

We are also in the process of purchasing some club shirts and caps which will
hopefully be available in time for the fishing competition…so when they are
available make sure you get one as it is expected that they will sell quicker
than cold cups at a chili eating competition !!!
And good luck to all at the comp!!!!
Ole and Sven went fishing one summer and decided to rent a boat from the
resort instead of fishing from the shore. They rowed out a ways and started to
fish. They caught one fish after the other.
Ole says to Sven, "I wish we could mark this spot. It’s the best fishing I've seen
since I was a boy."
Sven replied, "I got some chalk in my tackle box, so why don't I put an X right
here on the bottom of the boat?"
Ole laughed, "You goofy brother of mine...What if we don't rent the same boat
next time."
