About the Material and Energy Balance Spreadsheets
Brice Carnahan – University of Michigan
Prof. Brice Carnahan at the University of Michigan has assigned a variety of spreadsheeting problems to
his students in the first chemical engineering course, Material and Energy Balances. The problems
typically involve solution of a class of problems (suitable for solving many related class home problems),
although some are more specifically related to a particular situation (e.g., specification of a force-air homeheating furnace and steady-state simulation of a particular methanol-production process).
The student problem assignments (in Word .doc files) and Prof. Carnahan’s (in one case student) solutions
