We will accept entries up to December 2010 from as many of your clients that wish to be involved as possible. From these entries we will choose a small group to meet in the New Year to take some finial pictures suitable for promotional use. In the past this has been a very enjoyable day for all participants to celebrate their success and meet other slimmers.

We have a coffee machine for the consultant who sends through the most testimonial forms before December 2010.

Please find attached to this email the forms requiring completion to submit a testimonial, print off copies and ask your clients to complete.

Naturopath Talk – Inga von Benzon

Calcium-Magnesium

Probably more discussed as any other supplement: do we need to take extra calcium or do we get enough in our diet? The answer is not so straight forward – it depends on the formula, whether the body actually assimilates the mineral. Drinking milk is promoted as the best source of calcium, however, despite the fact that milk has one of the highest amounts of calcium, the human body can’t necessarily absorb it into its system. Interestingly, we have the highest rate of osteoporosis in the

Western world!! Needless to say, we definitely need calcium, and it is used effectively when taken in the right form. Our formula contains calcium citrate, which is a highly soluble form and more easily absorbed than the more commonly used calcium carbonate. In order to absorb calcium, the body needs magnesium in the correct ratio. Cal-Mag provides magnesium citrate for quick and effective absorption.

Sarah Buckley| General Manager | System Slim NZ Ltd | m. +64 21 901 823 | www.systemslim.net

Lets recap the benefits for our clients: Women with menstrual problems, particularly cramps, PMS, and also post-menopausal symptoms, greatly benefit from Cal-Mag, as it reduces their symptoms significantly. As bone loss is a factor when aging, with Osteoporosis as a high risk factor, calcium-magnesium needs to be taken over a long period of time. Please note that taking a supplement for only a short time is not of real benefit, as it takes many months to balance a deficiency. Calcium-magnesium is needed for good muscle tone, and therefore essential for healthy heart function. It helps to reduce body fat and relieves constipation, which makes Cal-Mag an essential nutrient for successful weight loss results. In order to get the best absorption rate, calcium should be taken on an empty stomach. There are a few precautions and contra-indications, which should be noted: When there is a history of kidney stones, taking it without food may increase the risk of kidney stones. Clients with

Hypercalcemia, or hypersensitivity to any component of a calcium formula, shouldn’t take calcium-magnesium.

Herbal Diuretic

A fantastic herbal formula that nourishes the urinary tract and liver while gently removing excess water. It works beautifully in combination with our core weight loss products, and should be considered for anybody, not just for clients with fluid retention. As this formula has no contraindications, it can be safely used by every client. Here are some of the benefits that you may want to short list: supports the urinary tract, therefore vital for clients with UT infection. A natural antiseptic, it is helpful for any bladder problems, and nourishes kidney and bladder, as well as the liver. This promotes digestion and circulation of the blood, purifying and detoxifying the body. Wonderful for bloating during the menstrual cycle, and may ease pain associated with menses. Great for reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol naturally. Clients with rheumatism, arthritis and gout benefit from this formula, as it helps to ease pain and calm nerves. It really has a calming effect on the whole body, which makes it a useful addition for someone who has sleeping problems. This wide range of benefits greatly assists our weight loss clients to achieve best results and support their overall health at the same time. Remember, reducing stress is the absolute key in reducing weight, so this little formula will give you the extra trick up your sleeve when needed! You can also use Herbal Diuretic instead of Cleanse+ if Cleanse+ is contraindicated.

By our Nutrition Consultant & General Manager Sarah Buckley

Blood sugar balancing, what is all the fuss? I have found this topic to be one of the harder concepts of weight loss for people to grasp and it is an important part of our system slim programmes. So this month I am including some information to provide a better understanding of blood sugar balancing.

As much as two thirds of the average calorie intake is from fat, sugar and refined flours. We all know refined foods are unhealthy but not

Sarah Buckley| General Manager | System Slim NZ Ltd | m. +64 21 901 823 | www.systemslim.net

many of us know why. Take white flour for example, during processing the majority of the fibre is removed along with 25 nutrients, 87% of its essential mineral content is lost.

When we consume processed foods containing refined flours and sugar blood sugar levels rise rapidly. Your body can not use this high amount of sugar in the blood so the hormone insulin sends a trigger to your brain to remove this excess sugar from the blood. So where does this excess sugar go? It is stored in fat cells generally around the belly. Your blood sugar levels then crash leaving you tired and craving more sugary foods or stimulants like coffee. So by eating sugary foods you are literally sending your body into fat storage mode. Have you ever eaten a burger from a fast food restaurant? It fills you up but 30 minutes later you’re starving. A vicious cycle of cravings, exhaustion, stress and weight gain can set in.

To break this cycle:

Avoid processed foods- choose wholegrain carbohydrates, lentils, beans, lean meat and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Recommended reading & GI Index is Glucose Revolution by Jennie

Brand-Miller, there are a few books in this range so try and get the one with the index included.

Don't skip meals - regular meals and eating little and often will help to maintain good energy levels and keep your blood sugar levels balanced to avoid weight gain. Snacks should be low GI and ideally include some protein; fruit and nuts, or hummus on crackers is ideal, crisps or chocolate are not!

Drink plenty of filtered water throughout the day.
