POST-SECONDARY SCHOOL RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT

This Powerpoint assignment will be completed individually. The purpose of this assignment is for you
to develop an awareness of post-secondary education options as well as costs and requirements.
The expectations that will be met with this assignment include the following;
 identify the skills they have developed through school subjects
 describe and the explain the importance of personal management skills
 describe a variety of effective communication skills
 describe respectful and responsible behaviour that produce effective group results
 demonstrate understanding that career development is a lifelong process that will
include transitions, changes, and lifelong learning
 demonstrate the effective use of print, video, and computer based resources to locate, select,
and evaluate career-related information
 demonstrate the ability to organize selected career information effectively, using wordprocessing and powerpoint.
The format of this project must include;
1. A PowerPoint presentation that includes information about a University, College and Apprenticeship
program that you are interested in learning about.
2. You may use these resources: Post-Secondary Calendars in the Guidance Center,
www.electronicinfo.ca and http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/list/univers.html,
www.ontariocolleges.ca, www.canlearn.ca
3. For the pathway you choose to research, you are to answer the following questions on each slide of
your PowerPoint.
PART A: UNIVERSITY RESEARCH
Slide 1 – University Name, location, and some pictures of the University
Slide 2 – Pick one Program at a University (i.e Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor Science)-briefly provide a
description about this program. (i.e length of program, what you receive upon completion of this
program, what you will study)
Slide 3 – Describe the cost of University for total amount of years in school (i.e 4 year degree program,
include separate costs for tuition, books, meals, student fees etc)
Slide 4 – List the cost of living in residence and describe living conditions
Slide 5 - For this University Program, What high school courses do you need to get into this program
and the average required. Briefly explain why these courses are important.
Slide 6 - What types of careers can I get with this degree (min. 3).
Slide 7 - What are some extra-curricular activities you can get involved in at this university, you can
use pictures to show some activities on this slide.
