NIH report spells out best practices for combining qualitative and quantitative research

The NIH has released recommendations for scientists conducting mixed methods health research.

The report provides suggestions on how to design a mixed methods study. It outlines the challenges in mixed methods investigations and addresses how to form, lead and train a mixed methods research team.

Pearson unveils technology to measure complexity of text

Pearson has announced the creation of the Pearson Reading Maturity Metric, which measures the reading difficulty of texts. Developed by scientists at Pearson's Knowledge Technologies group, the new computer-based technology measures how close an individual student's reading abilities are to what they will need in college.

US Android users spending more time on mobile apps than mobile web, says Nielsen

The Nielsen Smartphone Analytics has revealed the average Android consumer in the US spends 56 minutes per day actively interacting with the web and apps on their phone. Of that time, two-thirds is spent on mobile apps while one-third is spent on the mobile web.

Prof. David Phillips, the President of the UK's Royal Society of Chemistry, has observed that the big rise in number of students studying chemistry A-level reflects teenagers' value of the subject. The number of students who entered for chemistry A-level increased 9.2 percent to 48,082.
