7. Projects:
1. Gürgey,K., Silliman, A. and Sökmensüer, T., 2006- Present. Chemo-stratigraphy Project. This is a
pioneer project in oil industry. We use drill cutting and GORETM modules to detect volatile and semivolatile organic compounds present in oil & gas in the subsurface. The purpose of the project is to
determine the oil and gas rich zones in the subsurface prior to well testing. Consequently, we obtained
very promising results that will be presented at AAPG meeting hold in September 14-17, 2014 in
Istanbul. This project is still going on between Merty Energy, Ankara and W.L. Gore & Associates Inc.
Newark, Delaware, USA. The method which we have developed during this project is now commercial
and is open the oil industry. The article has been in preparation.
2. Gürgey, K*., Varol, B., and Simoneit, B.R.T. 2003-2004. An Investigation of Unknown Origin
Petroleum in Geothermal Areas. Investigation of oil like material in geothermal areas was the primary
purpose of this project. This project was conducted with corporation between the Oregon State
University, USA and Turkish petroleum Corporation (TPAO), Ankara. As a result, one article has been
published in Applied Geochemistry.
3. Gürgey, K*., ve Botz, R., 2001-2004. Origin of Turkish Gas Seeps on the basis of stable carbon
and hydrogen isotopes. The project was realized with corporation between the Kiel University - Germany
and TPAO, Ankara. In house report was written in TPAO.
4. Gürgey, K*., Philp, P., Emiroglu, H., Siyako, M., Uygur, E., and Isık, T. 1998-2000. Origin of Thrace
Basin Gas, Condensates and Oils. Investigation of the characterization and origin of Thrace Basin gas,
condensate and oils with the use of carbon isotopes (GC-IRMS), GC-MS, and GC was the main aim.
The project was realized with corporation between Oklahoma State University, USA and TPAO, Ankara
and completed. The article was published in Applied Geochemistry.
