The League of Women Voters of the Huntington Area is providing this information for those
who intend to run for office and for the geneal electorate. The League is a nonpartisan organization
and neither supports nor opposes candidates, but encourages the informed and active participation of
citizens in government. Membership in the League is open to those men and women who are
interested in education and action on issues and voters service for the public.

ELECTIONS OF DELEGATES TO PARTY CONVENTIONS
REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION DELEGATES - 31 of West Virginia's 34 delegates to the
Republican National Convention will be elected in the West Virginia Presidential Primary. The
delegate candidates will be individually listed on the ballot along with their presidential preference.
The candidates receiving the most votes in each contest will be elected. See the WV Party’s website

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION DELEGATES - West Virginia was allocated 33
delegates and 2 alternates. It will use a proportional representation system based on the results of the
Primary’s Presidential Preference. See the WV Party’s website for more information
OTHER PARTIES - The Mountain Party and Libertarian Party candidates are also eligible to be on
the November ballot and will be nominated at conventions.
Party rules are subject to change.
CALENDAR
January 9 - 28 Filing for Office; Filing for Huntington’s Mayor and City Council - file with the
city clerk. For offices totally within the county, file with the county clerk. For statewide, legislative, and
multi-county offices, file with the Secretary of State.
January 1 - May 4 Military and Overseas Voters may apply for an absentee ballot by mail or
electronically.
February 16 - May 4 All other eligible voters may apply for an absentee ballot by mail.
April 17 Voter Registration Deadline for the Primary Election
April 27 - May 7 Early Voting
