1. How do you envision integrating business training with your intended major?
2. In approximately 250 words, please give us your point of view on a social issue or
current event that is of interest and importance to you.
3. Tell us something about yourself that we would not necessarily know from a traditional
application.
All applicants must set up a meeting with the Administrative Director of the Business and Liberal
Arts program and bring a copy of a recent transcript if available. Please return this application
by email to bala.program@lehman.cuny.edu, or bring to Shuster Hall Room 310. Applicants
are encouraged to obtain at least one recommendation from a faculty member. Contact the

THE BALA CORE
ACC 185: Introduction to Accounting for Non-Accounting Majors
This course will introduce basic accounting principles, their use in the preparation and
interpretation of financial statements, and the uses of accounting for management.
BBA 204: Principles of Management
An introduction to the theory and practice of management, this course will explore effective
and efficient managerial techniques, and help to develop management skills such as planning,
organizing, and controlling the physical, financial, and informational resources of an
organization.
BBA 332: Marketing Management
This course centers on the nature and function of marketing. These include consumer
motivation and behavior; marketing at both the wholesale and retail levels; market research;
product planning; pricing policies; sales management and promotion; and government
regulation.

BBA 328: Human Resource Management
Taking a broad approach, the course will survey the following topics: large scale enterprise and
managerial goals; economic and social matrices for hiring; development of human resource
inputs; and collective bargaining techniques.
COM 300: Communications in Business and Industry
This course will introduce the principles of oral communication with applications in business,
industrial, and professional settings. Special attention will be given to topics such as business
presentations, employee motivation, and interviewing.

PHI 330: Business Ethics
This course will explore the social responsibilities of business organizations, with attention to
the ethical, moral, and social issues stemming from the interaction of individuals, businesses,
and government.
THE INTERNSHIP SEQUENCE
After the first four courses, BALA students have the option to apply for the selective internship
sequence; eligible students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Following an
in-depth investigation of career directions, students can choose to earn an additional 5 credits
in HUM 470 - the Humanities Internship, or NSS 470 - the Natural and Social Science Internship.
