Part Two:
My 16-year-old will be responsible for paying for any cell phone, car, car insurance, or
entertainment above my monthly allotment. He/She is old enough and expected to work to pay for
anything above my means. The 10-year-old will, like me, live modestly.
Monthly Expenses:
 Gas to go to work is about $3 a day. With other errands, gas will be $90 a month.
 Car insurance for 6 months with a cheap car in Holly Springs would be around $300, so $50 a
month.
 According to ehealthinsurance.com, I could get a decent health care plan for me and my two
kids in Holly Springs with United Health Care for $281.25 monthly.
 Electric: $100 a month.
 Other utilities: $100 a month.
 Rent/Mortgage: $350 a month
 A house phone line would be $30 a month.
 Food for 3 could probably be scraped down to about $100 a month.
 Clothes, school supplies, and other living expenses or necessities might cost $150 a month for
the family.
Total Monthly Budget: $1251.25
Let h be the number of hours worked in a month. The income after taxes per hour worked is 0.8(5.75).
So 1251.25 = 0.8(5.75)h
And 1251.25 = 4.6h
This implies that h = 272, and I must work 272 hours a month. Using 30 day months, I must work 9.1
hours every day, without taking Saturday or Sunday off.
