Discussion Rubric for Evaluating Coordinated Course Proposals
Evaluation Questions: Does the proposed IS program and/or its proposal…?
Rating
Scale 1-5
a. Bring new disciplines into the Integrated Studies courses offerings?
b. Bring new faculty into Integrated Studies program?
c. Provide multiple degree requirements (e.g. VLPA, special designations, etc.)?
d. Bring disciplinary balance to the annual schedule?
e. Provide a mentoring experience for a new faculty member with experienced IS
faculty?
f. Meet the advisors’ recommendations regarding student demand?
g. Have “Special circumstances" that might affect when it is offered? (For example,
timeliness, or a visiting faculty member or a unique opportunity.)
h. Work well with the master schedule and its required and prioritized offerings?
i. If previously offered, provide sufficient evidence to support it being offered again?
(Criteria includes student evaluations, strong enrollment history, covers an
essential learning outcome not normally offered in an IS course?)
j. Include learning activities and assessments for integrative and interdisciplinary
learning?
k. Integrate the 2015-16 Year of Learning theme “Ethics of Place” in demonstrated
and substantive ways?
