Aquila Theatre Returns to Whitewater Performing Two Classics
WHITEWATER – Young Auditorium brings two classics to the stage from Aquila Theatre, who is
known for their dedication to making the classics relevant to today’s audiences. The productions are
William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet on Tuesday, October 20th and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on Wednesday, October 21st. Both performances take place at 7:30
p.m. Ticket prices range between $19.50-$29.50 for each show.
Aquila Theatre’s mission is to make classical works accessible to the greatest number. In their words,
“A play becomes ‘classical’ because we recognize that after a time it transcends the original culture it
was created for. It retains the power to provoke the central question of what it means to be human. As
a company dedicated to the classics, we feel a responsibility to acknowledge and explore newfound
classical works.” Aquila Theatre was founded in London in 1991 by Peter Meineck but is now based
in New York City. The New York Times praises their work by stating, “Aquila’s productions are
beautifully spoken, dramatically revealing and crystalline in effect.”

Romeo & Juliet
Recognized world-wide as one of theater’s most iconic couples, Romeo and Juliet are the very
archetype of tragic young lovers. Set against a backdrop of warring households, so ensues a story of
romance, murder and tragedy, as famous as any that has graced the stage. Through Shakespeare’s
beautiful prose, these star-crossed lovers, in Aquila’s striking and moving adaption of The Bard’s
classic tragedy, will take your breath away. The Aquila Theatre will bring its innovative style and
dynamic physical approach to Shakespeare’s most famous and heart-breaking play.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, takes the stage in this witty, fast paced production. The
clever Holmes skillfully maneuvers the twisted web of London’s most intriguing cases. Holmes is a
master of disguise and a brilliant actor, as well as a composer and musician. Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle’s vivid characters jump from the page weaving a tale of mystery, suspense and intrigue. The
Aquila Theatre brings its energetic and physical style to this new adaptation with actors drawn from
the top British and American stages.
