Objectives
Research
 Develop a cyberinfrastructure to allow virtual geological mapping with Semantic Web tech.
 Develop an internationally recognized and funded research program in geoinformatics by building the
following:
o Geosciences Linked Data Cloud with the Semantic Web Technologies
o Knowledge base for brittle deformation in the San Andreas Fault zone in California
o Object/process ontologies for brittle and ductile deformation in structural geology
o Ontologies for tectonic processes along shear zones and subduction zones
 Increase the level/frequency of funding for my research projects by government and nongovernment
agencies
Teaching
 Build a semantic web-based digital, field, and virtual geological mapping system
 Develop a system to allow inclusion of students with mobility impairment in the Field Camp
 Advance digital mapping in the Summer Field Geology courses with Linked Data technology
 Train a new, hybrid generation of graduate students in geoinformatics by offering new courses in Earth
science informatics in the Department of Geosciences, GSU
