students in developing, evaluating, and
effectively initiating and implementing
career plans. Career planning is a
developmental process and must be
fostered during the entire period of a

self-assessment is matched with the
other essentials of career planning and
preparation that include academic
preparation, occupational exploration,
self-concept development, experiential
learning, and employability skills. These
ingredients of career development
contribute significantly to one's
successful entry into a chosen
profession upon graduation.
To increase your chances of landing
that perfect job upon graduation or

registered, given an opportunity to
network, and then taken to a fine
dining hall on campus that was located
next to a historic Cathedral. The bells
of the Cathedral rang as if to welcome
us to Ohio State. After a wonderful
dinner, the students were bused to a
student union building where a 300member Gospel choir serenaded them.
The choir stood in front of us, and on
both sides of us. It was as if they had
put their arms around us and sang the
most beautiful music. On the next day
the students were given an opportunity
to visit their schools of interest.

Career Day TIPS:
1. Clear your schedule for the
entire day.
2. Dress as you would for an
interview.
3. Bring a pen and paper for note
taking
4. Carry a supply of professional
printed résumés proportionate to
the number of employers you hope
to meet.
5. Carry your belongings in a
professional business satchel, which
is polished and well organized.
6. Review the Career Fair website or
newspaper advertisement and plan
ahead which employer’s booth you
want to see.
7. Open your mind to consider
employers beyond your current
ideas.
8. Rehearse a 30-second introduction
of yourself, your accomplishments
and your objectives.
9. Be considerate of recruiters’ time.
After asking your questions, make
arrangements for future contacts.
10. Thank the recruiter and ask for a
business card, so you may send a
follow-up letter.
11. Jot down notes after each interview
or meeting to avoid confusing your
conversations later.
12. Take time to talk to fellow attendees,
if possible. Often peers can offer
you valuable insight based on their
search and employment experience.
