College Application Checklist for Seniors
Please use the checklist below to guide you through your responsibilities in the application process.
As you apply to colleges, have you…
 Read through all application requirements for each college on their admissions website?
 Determined for which schools you will be using the Common Application and create an account on
www.commonapp.org
 Made note of the admissions deadline for each school?
 Taken or retaken the SAT (or ACT) in advance of your earliest admissions deadline?
 Determined if any of your colleges require the SAT Subject Tests?
 Sent your SAT scores via the College Board website for each test date you have taken?
 Determined how many letters of recommendations you need and from whom? Ask those individuals well in
advance and what information (such as a resume) they would like you to provide
 Sent in any required application fee or fee waiver if applicable?
 Reviewed the college’s financial aid and scholarship webpage to determine if you are able to apply for any
merit scholarships or whether you need to complete the CSS Profile? Take note of these deadlines!
 Requested that the Counseling Office send your transcript to the colleges you are applying? This must be
done 10 school days in advance of a deadline (20 school days in advance if you are requesting a
recommendation).
Before requesting transcripts and recommendations be sent, have you…
 Logged on to your Common App account (if applicable) and entered the schools to which you will be
applying?
 Complete the Education section so transcripts and recommendations can be sent
 Complete the FERPA Waiver & Authorization to give permission for records to be sent
 Logged on to your Naviance account and add the colleges you are applying to? (Once logged in, click
Colleges then Colleges I’m Applying To
 For Common App schools, complete the Common App Account Matching by entering the email
address you used to set up your Common App account
 Enter non-Common App schools by clicking +add colleges to this list
 Completed the appropriate Transcript Release Form (either Common App or Non-Common App)?
 Determined which colleges accept electronic documents? An addressed envelope with 2 stamps is
required with form submission for these schools.
 Obtained a parent signature if you are under 18?
 Added the teacher(s) you have previously asked to write you a letter under Teacher Recommendations in
Naviance? You do not have to add your counselor if he/she is writing you a letter. Make arrangements
with your teacher to mail recommendations if they will not be sent via Naviance
 Submit your correctly completed transcript request release form in person to the appropriate Counseling Office
clerk. Transcript requests cannot be accepted by email, fax, mail, etc.
ALL REQUESTS FOR TRANSCRIPTS ONLY MUST BE SUBMITTED 10 SCHOOL DAYS PRIOR TO A DEADLINE
WHEN A COUNSELOR RECOMMENDATION IS NEEDED, REQUESTS MUST BE SUBMITTED 20 SCHOOL DAYS PRIOR
