Blanket Permission Plan for Seniors
Off-Campus Lunch and Free Periods
There has been a long-expressed desire by the senior classes of Episcopal High School
over the years for seniors to have the ability to leave campus during their free periods.
There are a number of reasons why a senior might wish to leave campus during his/her
free period, including going to a university library, working in an environment that better
suits him/her, running errands, or simply taking a break from the school routine. It is
Episcopal High School’s conviction that students who are mature enough to attend
college next fall are mature enough to assume the responsibility of planning and
monitoring their free time. The Blanket Permission Plan gives seniors the privilege of
leaving campus during their lunch period and their free period, when the free period is
contiguous to their lunch period or it occurs the first or last period of the day. For the
plan to be approved, the student’s parents must sign the document, and the student must
meet the eligibility requirements listed below.
Eligibility for the senior off-campus free period and lunch privileges includes both
academic and disciplinary requirements. The senior must have a C or better in all of
his/her classes at the end of each quarter and not have six or more tardies to first period.
The senior’s off-campus privilege will be immediately revoked with any Honor or
Disciplinary offense.
Parents should understand that Episcopal High School cannot and does not take
responsibility for students when they are not on campus. If parents feel they do not wish
to assume the responsibility themselves, they should not sign the Blanket Permission. We
feel that seniors and their parents should talk seriously about the implications and
conditions of the Plan before making a decision.
Kim Randolph, the Dean of Students, will advise seniors to be prudent about where they
spend their time off campus. Likewise, he will ask seniors to use their discretion in their
initial decision to leave campus—academics and community life must continue to hold
priority over free time.
To Summarize: The Blanket Permission Plan is as follows:
1) Only seniors in good disciplinary and academic standing (grades of C or better in all
classes) are eligible.
2) If a senior has a C- or below at the end of a quarter, he/ she must wait until the end of
the next quarter to be eligible to leave campus.
3) Seniors must not have more than six tardies to first period or have had their privileges
revoked due to Honor or Disciplinary action.
4) Both seniors and parents must sign the Blanket Permission form.
5) The Blanket Permission applies to a senior’s free period if it is the student’s first or
last period of the day or if it adjoins their assigned lunch period. The student’s
assigned lunch period is also covered under the Blanket Permission. The senior must
continue to attend all other classes and school appointments, and must be on time and
attend Chapel each day.
6) If seniors are tardy, even once, returning from the off-campus free period, they will
lose the privilege for two weeks. If they are tardy again, the privilege will be
terminated.
7) While off campus, seniors must not act in violation of the Episcopal High School
Code of Conduct. Any infraction will be dealt with accordingly.
8) The School or parents may cancel Blanket Permission for individual seniors if
circumstances (academic decline, honor/discipline offenses, etc.) warrant.
