Institute of Microbial Technology
Since establishment in 1984, IMTECH has been
carrying out research work in four important areas:
Molecular
Microbiology;
Protein
Science
and
Engineering; Cell Biology and Immunology &
Biochemical Engineering. IMTECH also houses several
national facilities funded by Dept. of Biotechnology
which include a Microbial Type Culture Collection, (a
depositary of microorganisms and vectors) and a
center for biochemical engineering in addition to
Bioinformatics Centre.

Bioinformatics Centre at IMTECH
Bioinformatics centre (BIC) at IMTECH, since its
establishment in 1987, has shown consistent growth in
different frontline areas of Bioinformatics. Centre has
developed databases and softwares, both for in-house
use and for researchers world over. BIC has developed
a number of web servers based on its peer reviewed
research. BIC staff has published more than 200
research papers, 50 copyrights and 100 webservers.
The servers of BIC are getting more than 25000 hits
per day.

The centre is equipped with high performance
computing from SUN and IBM besides a number of
other servers. Centre is well connected by network
(LAN as well as internet).

Introduction
Accommodation
BIC is organizing a workshop with theme
revolving around bioactive peptides.
Bioactive peptides are likely to have
applications as antimicrobials, antivirals,
pharmaceuticals,
antiinflammatories,
anticancers etc. A few research groups
at IMTECH are currently engaged in
research on such properties of peptides.
Peptides certianly have advantage as
drugs of choice for treament of various
diseases. Computational approaches can
offer a platform for quick and easy way to
design and model peptides, thus,
reducing time and resources before
approaching bench.
Applicants requiring accommodation must indicate
in the registration form. Such applicants need to
pay Rs 500 in addition to registration fee.
Aim of Workshop
The aim of this workshop is to familiarize
participants with experimental as well as
in silico approaches including prediction,
modeling and molecular simulations,
designing of peptides etc. The workshop
will also include exploitation of properties
of unusual amino acids and their retroinverso nature.
Who can participate
M.Sc. students, researchers pursuing Ph.D.,
faculty members and scientists working in the
area related to protein and/or peptide research.
There are limited seats available in this workshop.
Selected candidates will be informed by 5th Oct.,
2011.
How to apply
The
