Rules

Chapters will receive credit for new members if on or within the membership application the new member quotes a chapter or a chapter member as the referring sponsor.

SCTE National will send PDF copies of membership applications to each chapter with their chapter name on it. If a new member uses one of these applications during the event time frames, that chapter will receive the appropriate level of credit.

New Members who register on the SCTE Web site must insert either the chapter name or individual responsible for recruiting them. If an individual’s name is used, SCTE will credit the chapter that the individual participates with.

Applications without any chapter or member’s name listed as the sponsor will not be credited to any chapter.

Chapters will receive credit for all new members and all reinstated SCTE members (Reinstated Members = previous Members of the Society whose membership terminated 90 days prior to September 1, 2005 – in other words prior to June 1, 2005)

In the case that a national company wishes to sign up their employees as SCTE members during the MGM campaign, the chapter closets to the new member’s record of residence will be credited for the recruitment.

Top 20 Tips for Success

1. Distribute the enclosed, coded membership brochures and a list of talking points (the value of membership) to every chapter member and invite them to help your team win great prizes.

2. Get the word out to your chapter members! Post information about the MGM campaign on your chapter website and in your newsletter. Give people a reason to help your chapter participate. Answer the “What’s in it for me?” question. Keep your chapter members informed of your progress and prizes earned.

3. Host an open house event for prospective members (consider a racing theme to tie it all together). Send invitations to the local systems and to the prospects in your area (SCTE HQ can provide the contact list of prospective members for you). Advertise that you will raffle off a fabulous prize to those who enroll as an SCTE member at the event.

4. Assign each chapter board member an MSO system office and have them visit it to promote SCTE membership and drop off coded member applications. A proven practice provided by the Bonneville Chapter.

5. Pick a day to hold a phone-a-thon to reach out to lapsed members in your area. Give a prize to the chapter member who recovers the most. SCTE HQ can provide the list of lapsed members in your area.

6. Identify your largest prospect pools and develop a strategy to recruit them

(CSRs, contractors, etc.)

7. Use your chapter funds to invest in the enrollment of new members. The

New England Chapter supplements the non-member registration fees and enrolls all nonmembers in SCTE. For example, if your meeting registration fee

DRAFT – JUNE 10, 2005 – Theresa Wilson is $25 for nonmembers, agree to put this amount towards an SCTE membership and supplement it with $23 of chapter funds to enroll the individual as a member.

The Badger State Chapter takes a slightly different approach to the same concept. They offer a free tech session registration

($40 value) if the person enrolls in membership.

Another option is to sponsor a “SCTE Buy-One-Get-One” day. Encourage chapter members to bring two prospects to a technical seminar and sign them up for a ½ price membership.

The chapter treasury supplements the cost of the full membership. A proven practice provided by the New England & Badger State Chapters.

8. Look to your local college or technical trade schools for prospective student members. Promote benefits that appeal to them: networking, SCTE’s Job

Bank, industry proven credentials through certification. Remember, their dues are only $24/year. A proven practice provided by the Lighthouse Chapter.

9. Discuss the benefits of membership at the beginning of every chapter event.

10. Give each chapter board member a goal to secure 5 memberships. Track and publicize the progress (everyone loves some friendly competition!) and offer a prize to those who achieve the goal.

11. Send an email invitation to the prospects in your area and invite them to join.

The e-mail should include personal testimonials about the value of membership, a list of member benefits and a click-through to the membership application. Just remember to emphasize they need to insert your chapter’s name in the “sponsoring chapter” field on the online membership form.

12. Set up and staff a membership table/kiosk at every chapter event. SCTE HQ can provide you with membership brochures, Interval, Literature Library, CT magazine and other member benefits (scholarship applications, job bank information, etc) to display and distribute. As individuals sign in, send all nonmembers over to the kiosk.

13. Create a special membership committee to drive your efforts.

14. Highlight new members at each chapter event. Prior to the meeting, ask one to share his experience (why s/he’s found value in his membership) at the meeting. Recognition of new members will help motivate the nonmembers to join.

15. When setting fees for your next chapter event or vendor show, charge a differential of at least $58 for nonmembers. Have membership forms available onsite encouraging nonmembers to become members at no additional cost. A proven practice by participating chapters in the Northern California Vendor

Show.

16. Develop a certification incentive program with SCTE membership as a prerequisite and offer prizes for successful completion of a certification exam.

A proven practice by the Central California Chapter.

17. Send your chapter newsletter to the prospects in your area with a special invitation to join.

18. Create buttons that say “Ask me about SCTE.” Wear them to work the week before a chapter meeting to increase interest and boost attendance.

19. Encourage everyone in your chapter to participate by promoting that your chapter will pay one year’s membership dues for anyone who recruits 5 new members (recruit 5 and earn your free membership!).

20. Set a goal for your chapter and throw a celebration event if you achieve it.

Please Note: It is the responsibility of each chapter to track the earnings of any incentives given to individuals within the chapter.
