students. Please contact the ADA Officer (Julie Byrnes) at 775-753-2271 at your earliest convenience to request timely and appropriate
accommodations.
Instructional Methods:
1. Teaching methods will include learning exercises, written assignments, and hands on experiments. A variety of other techniques
may be used to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes.
Assignments:
1. Weekly reading.
2. After reading each chapter there will be a weekly review quiz at http://evolve.elsevier.com . Your book was accompanied by a
CD. You will be completing some of the experiments for part of this grade. Please see the weekly assignment section of this
syllabus. Completion of the quizzes and experiments is 50%of your grade. The syllabus quiz will be included in this grade.
3. Assignments-50% grade) please see assignments and due dates on the following table. All assignments must be submitted
through Web CT.
i. Assignment 11. Keep track of repeats for one month at your clinical site.
2. Log your data onto a repeat analysis form-page 179 in your text(make a copy)
a. If the site is computerized-ask them if they keep track of repeats with the computer when they
discard images they don’t like. Find out how they do this.
b. If they don’t do this. Keep track of how many images you take, how many repeats you had, for your
data. Review the form first to find the data you need to keep track of. This assignment is due by
November 25, 2007.
ii. Assignment 21. Meet with your clinical site personnel. Get a list of their performance improvement studies. Could be
current or past. Some examples would be: Repeat analysis, report turn around time, mammography biopsy
follow ups, patient wait times, patient satisfaction survey. Start collecting data right away.
2. Choose one from the list or maybe start a new performance improvement study, the site would like to start.
a. For this study-you will need at least one month of data
b. You will need to complete a performance improvement paper:(Start collecting your date right
away)
i. The paper will be 7 pages long, double spaced, MLA format, and use proper grammer.
ii. Page one will need the title and description of what the performance improvement is.
iii. Page two –five will need to: (please refer to Chapter 1 for process)
1. state the reason the program is important to the clinical site,
2. is this a mandatory regulation requirement, if not mandatory, state why they choose
this quality improvement on this issue and the original desired outcome.
3. describe what the actual outcome was
4. relate the process chosen to the JCAHO cycle for improving performance on page 11
in your text, ie., how they designed it, measured it and assess it.
5. evaluate the process. What do you observe? How could this be proven upon? What
changes could be made?
iv. Page six-from the above information date, create one chart from the information analysis
tools listed in your text
v. Page seven-works cited page, must include one interview with clinical site personnel
3. Chapter Review Quizzes-(40%final grade)
4. There is no final exam.
