POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE:
AmeriCorps VISTA – Grant Writer
REPORTS TO:
Resource Development Coordinator
SUMMARY
AmeriCorps VISTA members are Volunteers In Service To America through the Corporation for National
and Community Service. At Communities In Schools, Our grant writer will focus heavily on submitting
grant applications to private foundations, corporate foundations, and public sources, with the goal of
increasing funding for our CIS programs in our five county rural service area. Member will participate in
the entire grant process from researching potential sources, preparing proposals, compiling all needed
information, and submitting proposals. Member will work as a part of the VISTA team focused on
increasing resources for the same service area, under the supervision of the Resource Development
Coordinator and in collaboration with the CEO's grant writing efforts. Member must be able to handle
multiple deadlines, possess strong writing skills, and be very organized.
Each member contract will begin February, 22nd 2016 and end February 20th, 2017. Decisions will be
made by January 26th, 2016.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
VISTA members will research funding sources, write grants, submit proposals, fund raise, engage
community stakeholders, assist in coordinating fundraising events, and grow in-kind donations. VISTAs
will receive a wide variety of training opportunities and utilize various technologies to accomplish tasks.
EDUCATION
Must be at least 18 years of age. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE





Prior experience working in a nonprofit setting and fundraising is a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to function in a diverse job environment.
Ability to assess job tasks, prioritize and manage work efficiently.
COMPENSATION
Living Allowance of $973 a month, Choice of Education Award ($5,730) or End-of-Service Stipend
($1,500) upon completion of the contract, Health Coverage, Job Training, Childcare assistance if eligible,
Relocation allowance if eligible. If Education Award is selected, eligible student loans can be put into
forbearance and interest accrued during service year paid after completion of service.



12-month, full time commitment
VISTA members may take college class(es) if they do not interfere with VISTA responsibility and
service. Schedule must be approved before enrolling.
