How to help your dog or cat with inflammatory skin conditions
Inflammatory skin conditions
Inflammation of the skin is not uncommon, and may be caused by allergies ( flea
bite, atopy, food allergy), or other disease. One cause is food allergy or food
intolerance. This means your dog or cat has an allergic reaction to one of the
substances in the food. Food-based allergenic substances are usually either
proteins or carbohydrates.
Allergic reactions of the skin are characterised by itching, which leads to
scratching. Dogs also may suffer from itching of the external ear.
Severe scratching may lead to secondary clinical signs, such as hair loss, red and
flaky skin areas, crustification and chronic infections of these areas.
Vomiting and diarrhoea may also occur.
The most frequent symptoms:




Excessive scratching
Reddened and flaky skin areas
Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
A poor quality coat
How nutrition can help
A correct diet can play a key role in helping your dog or cat’s skin and coat return
to normal. Eukanuba Veterinary Diets Dermatosis Formula contains ingredients
to reduce itching and to eliminate food-related allergic reactions.
The key nutritional features of Eukanuba Veterinary Diets
Dermatosis Formula:

Both the dog and cat diet contain a unique protein and carbohydrate
source, unlikely to cause and allergic reaction.

An adjusted Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acid ration reduces skin
inflammation and helps to restore a healthy skin and coat.
How you can help:
Your veterinarian has given you specific medical and nutritional guidelines. Be
sure to follow all of these carefully. This also means to avoid all treats or snacks
If your pet doesn’t eat, or isn’t responding exactly as you and your veterinarian
expect, be sure to contact your veterinarian immediately. In some instances,
additional medication may be required. If this is the case, closely follow the
medication specifications and dosage.
If you’re unsure about anything, please be sure to ask your veterinarian without
delay.
When the symptoms have gone
Depending on the severity and length of the disease, your veterinarian can advise
you about the duration of needed nutritional support. In cases of food allergy,
lifelong support with Eukanuba Veterinary Diets – under veterinary
Supervision – is indicated, but other dogs and cats can be smoothly
transitioned to another Eukanuba or Iams product when the
symptoms have been relieved.
The Eukanuba and Iams lines of products provides complete and
balanced nutrition for dogs and cats and is available for all life stages
and lifestyles. Developed on the basis of extensive scientific research
and more than 50 years of experience in making premium quality pet
nutrition, Iams Company products combine the latest advances in
