Application Form for Postgraduate Research Funds, Postgraduate
Conference Fund and Research Grants
Postgraduate Conference Fund
Grants of up to £250 are available to assist postgraduate BRG members in presenting a paper or
poster at a conference, and are intended to cover part of the total cost of registration, accommodation
and travel. Students with research council funding or equivalent are not eligible to apply.
Postgraduate Research Funds
Grants of up to £500 are available to all postgraduate BRG members registered for a higher research
degree to support students who do not receive full funding or where an additional opportunity to add
value to an existing PhD programme has arisen (e.g. new data available, fieldwork, invitation to visit
an overseas laboratory).
Research Grants
Grants of up to £1,000 are available to non-postgraduate members of BRG to finance or contribute
towards small projects or specific costs of research e.g. travel for research, costs of dating, fieldwork
costs and pilot projects. Funds can also support monitoring in the form of revisits or any one-off study
that adds information to an existing dataset. Early career biogeography staff and those returning to
biogeographical research after a break are particularly encouraged to apply.
Three copies of the completed application form and supporting statement should be sent, along with a
signed statement from your Head of Department (or equivalent) showing support for the application,
