REQUEST FOR NEW CONCENTRATION
DEFINITION: A concentration is an approved set of courses limited to the Interdisciplinary Studies major. A
concentration may appear on a student’s transcript. Concentrations must be approved by CCPI, Faculty
Senate, and the Academic Vice President.
SPECIFICATION: A concentration must integrate two or more academic disciplines to develop an area of
study; however, it cannot replicate an existing major. The concentration should consist of 32 to 47 s.h. No
more than 21 s.h. of the concentration may come from an individual WIU department and/or major.

(Since other departments in the University may investigate topics dealt with in the proposed
concentration, indicate which existing programs (majors, minors, options), if any, the proposed
concentration may seem to compliment. The results of conferences with other departments should
