Honors Geometry Summer Packet
May 2012
Dear Future Honors Student/Parent,
Welcome to Honors Geometry! I look forward to getting to know you and working with you during the 20122013 school year. In an effort to improve student performance over the course of a 4 year honors
mathematics career at Hayes HS, students will be required to complete a sequence of summer review
packets. These packets are aimed at ensuring that all students entering an honors class at Hayes are
prepared for the curriculum that they will encounter. It also is designed to help you make the transition into
this challenging course as smooth as possible. One thing is for sure – the more you do over the summer,
the easier it will be when school starts and the more comfortable you will feel with the pace of the class.
The majority of the material in the packet will be topics that have been covered in previous mathematics
classes. If a student has mastered the material, then the packets should not take very long to complete
(possibly even within a day). However, if a student is having a hard time remembering/mastering the
material then they may need significantly more time to complete them.
Students will not be left on their own if they are struggling. A student can e-mail Mr. Hunt to ask questions
or seek guidance on where to receive help. A simple google search can often help, as well as visiting the
Khan Academy website. Furthermore, note keys will be posted on Mr. Hunt’s website. Please check Mr.
Hunt’s website (Hayes high school website, click on teachers, click on Mr. Hunt, click on “Honors
Geometry” on the left tab) for more information!
Additionally, students can visit the Glencoe book website to see examples and illustrations from the book.
Go to http://www.glencoe.com/sec/math/geometry/geo/geo_05/index.php/oh/2005 (or go to my website,
click on Geometry Information). Click on “Online Student Edition”.

It is very important that you complete the summer work and have a firm understanding of the prerequisite
skills, as we will be building on these concepts throughout the course!
This assignment is DUE ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. All work must be neatly shown for each
problem.
*There will be a test over the summer packet material the week that school resumes.
There will certainly be a few days of review, but the summer packet will be graded as an assignment on the
first day of class.
Students who do not perform well on the test (80% correct or better) will have to continue working on the
material until they can perform at that level. Mr. Hunt will certainly be available after school for extra help

and review if necessary. Keep in mind that class will continue as normal, so students who need to have
extra time to master the material would have to do this work in addition to their normal class activities, and
outside of class. Please understand this is not a punishment, but a way to ensure future success in our
upper level courses.
It is recommended that you work with one or more people, but each person is responsible for
understanding the concepts and submitting his/her own work. Before you leave school in June, write down
the names, phone numbers, and/or email addresses for at least two people who are also taking Honors
Geometry in the fall.
