Facing north on the Fourth Ring Road, this space-age structure has become a
centerpiece of Beijing’s Silicon Valley. The property is owned by Beijing University
of Aeronautics and Astronautics and is occupied primarily by a producer of palm-held
computers.
The academic traits of the university proprietor and the visual traits of the computers
that are being manufactured within, were inspiration for this sleek design. The
incorporation of rounded lines, right angles and combinations of metal and glass add
to the aerodynamic look of the place.
A sky garden is located on the top five floors of the building. The garden provides
employees with a unique work environment, giving them views of the green space
and allowing them to breathe fresh air. The widespread use of windows allows for
considerable natural light to enter the office spaces, and creates a reflective sheen
outside that dramatically transforms the character of building from day to night.
