accounting principles in accordance with generally accepted procedures.

RATIONALE
Manual accounting is slow and increasingly expensive. Computerized applications offer a partial solution
since computers perform at a very high speed with accuracy and reliability. Technology is constantly
evolving and computerizing the general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, depreciation,

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
This course is an online course. You are responsible for the material and if there are any questions,
you are responsible for informing your instructor as soon as possible. On the course site, you will find the
course is organized by weeks. Each week some of the resources you will find are: key concepts, online
quizzes, and case problems. The quizzes, key concepts and case problems are required. The key concepts,
quizzes, and case problems are always due on Fridays at noon. No exceptions! This course will require
strict discipline on your part, because the responsibility is on you. You should check the course site
daily to make sure there are no new announcements or changes.
How do I proceed? Let me tell you:
First Assignments: One assignment is to complete the Syllabus Acknowledgement and return to your
instructor via file exchange (not emailed, not dropped off at the office…file exchange). No exceptions!
If I do not receive the syllabus acknowledgement by the due date, you will be dropped from the course
and considered a No-Show. Your second assignment is to introduce yourself to the class. Click on the
Collaboration tab, student introduction folder, and answer the questions I have asked.
Then you will move on to the remaining assignments in this fashion Read through each chapter first
without completing any steps. After reading through the chapter, start at the beginning of the chapter and
work through the chapter completing all steps. Read through the Procedure Review at the end of the
chapter. Then complete Key Concepts assignment on our course site by the due date/time. Next, you
need to complete the online interactive quiz for each chapter. The link for the quiz is provided under the
each chapter assignment. Make sure that when you click on the link that you are at the 2013 textbook
website. I have had some issues with the link going to the older version of the textbook instead of the
new 2013 version. You will email your quiz results to me mailto:jangel@northark.edu
Next, complete case problems #1 and #2 if they are assigned. There are printouts with each case
problem. You do not need to submit any hard printouts to your instructor! Instead, you will submit an
electronic copy of the printouts/reports associated with the case problems to the portal. These will be
submitted as PDF files to your instructor. Instructions are given in the chapter when you get ready to
create the printouts/reports. The best way to submit the printouts will be to display the requested
report, then click on “File” “Save As” and save the file as a .pdf I would suggest you make a Computerized
Accounting folder on your computer with chapter subfolders. Then save the separate chapter .pdf reports
in that chapter’s folder. Then you can upload your .pdf files to me in the appropriate chapter assignment
on our course site. Make sure you upload all files before you “Submit as Final.” The first chapter does not
have any printouts, only key concepts that will need to be submitted and the Interactive Quiz that will be
emailed.
All due dates will be strictly enforced. There will be No Exceptions unless the following
extreme circumstances occur: a death in the immediate family; hospitalization of you or an
immediate family member; military obligations, or a natural disaster, such as an ice storm.
Illnesses, job requirements, travel, transportation issues, computer crashes, or internet
problems are not extreme circumstances. Prior planning for these circumstances is vital
for online or hybrid courses. Since this is a hybrid course, back-up plans are required for
any computer and internet interruptions. You should anticipate these interruptions and
plan accordingly.
You will have two exams: a mid-term and a final. The mid-term will be a proctored exam following
Chapter 5. The Mid Term will be administered in the testing center.
The final exam is a comprehensive project utilizing and demonstrating your Quickbooks knowledge as
well as writing a Reflection Paper. Your project will be completed the last few weeks of the semester and
submitted by the stated due date/time. More information is included on our course site.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Students will complete readings, key concepts, case problems, quizzes, mid-term and final exams.
