Know when to use the indefinite articles un, uno, una and un’ and when to use the
definite articles la, il, lo and l’. (REFER TO THE POWERPOINT THAT I POSTED)
uno: before a masculine word the begins with s plus consonant, x, y, z, ps, gn
una: before a feminine word that begina with a consonant
un: before all other masculine words
un’: before feminine words that begin with a vowel
Examples: un ragazzo, uno studente, una mamma: The Italian indefinite article
(l'articolo indeterminativo) corresponds to English a/an and is used with singular nouns.
lo: before masculine nouns beginning with s + consonant or z.
il: before masculine nouns beginning with all other consonants.
l’: before masculine and feminine nouns beginning with a vowel.
la:before feminine nouns beginning with any consonant.
Examples: il giorno, lo zio, l’amica, la casa: The Italian definite articles (l'articolo
determinativo) corresponds to the English the.
