"The Canterbury Tales" script (draft 1)

For centuries this book has been a bestseller.

Some people come to an inn in London.

They all want to go to Canterbury.

(Among them are a knight and a clerk, a merchant, a franklin and a pardoner.)

They decide to tell stories during their journey.

(Knight)

In my story two brothers fall in love with a beautiful princess. But (they can't even tell her about their love because) they are in prison.

(Clerk)

I want to tell you a story about a king who marries a poor girl. But he isn't sure that she loves him and decides to test her love.

(Merchant)

My story is about an old man who lives happily with his young wife.

Suddenly the man goes blind. He begins to doubt if his wife is faithful to him.

(Franklin)

I want to tell you about a devoted wife. She worries about her husband, who is at sea. In despair, she promises a place in her heart to a young man if he helps her husband to come back safely.

(Pardoner) In my story Death kills some people in the village. Three men think they will be able to punish the murderer, but they find something that makes them forget about their plan.

Love and jealousy, greed and unselfishness, treachery and faithfulness

– you'll find them all in the Canterbury Tales.
