Medicinal herbs for the treatment of liver disease
복합 약물작용점 활용을 위한 肝보호 약초 연구

In traditional medicine, the liver (肝) is the organ with characteristics of ‘Yin (陰)’ and ‘Wood (木)’.
The liver is one of the main organs in human by having various functions in physiology. Liver acts as
a cleaning organ and eliminates detrimental materials, which may damage the organ, tissue and cells.
For a long time, herbal medicines have been prescribed for both treatment and prevention of human
disease. Herbal formulas are used to reduce toxicity as well as increase efficacy in traditional Korean
medicine including Saeng-kankunbi-tang (生肝建脾湯, SKT). Some medicinal herbs also have long
been used to treat human disease including liver dysfunction such as Saururus chinensis. Saururus
chinensis (Lour.) Bail is one in the Saururaceae, which is distributed throughout various geographical
regions such as Asia and America. Among in the species, Saururus chinensis has studied beyond the
examination of plant extracts to determine of specific plant compounds. We investigated the effects of
some beneficial herbs for the treatment of liver failure and its mechanisms.
