Flagstaff (KFSX) Upper Air Forecasting
The following are made for 2 forecast times: 12Z and 00Z (5 AM and 5 PM in
FLG)
500 Heights - Forecast to the nearest meter. Verify from observed
sounding. 1 error point for each 5 meters off.
500 Temp – Forecast to the nearest 0.1 ˚ C. Verify from observed sounding. 1 error
point for each 1˚C off.
500 & 700 mb Dew point – Forecast to the nearest 0.1 ˚C. Verify from observed
sounding. 1 error point for each 2˚C off.
FLG Surface Temp & Dew pt. Forecasting
The following are made for every 6 hours, from 06Z to 00Z (11 PM day of
forecast to 5 PM valid day)
(Similar to the detail forecasting in 170/171)
Forecast temperature (T) and dew point temperature (Td) to the nearest 1˚F . Verified
from METARs. 1 error point for each 1 ˚F.
Precipitation Forecasting
Forecast precipitation for combined FLG and QSHA3 (Stray Horse) for 6 hour
periods, 06Z-12Z, 12Z-18Z and 18Z-00Z (11 PM to 5 AM, 5 AM to 11AM, 11 AM
to 5 PM)
Forecast total liquid precipitation to the nearest .01”, 1 error point for each .05” off.
