2015 Citizenship Essay Contest K-5
Theme: "I am proud to be an American because..."
Guidelines:
1. All entries submitted shall be original work from one individual entrant and must represent the
student's interpretation of the provided theme. No group entries will be accepted.
2. A COMPLETED entry form must accompany the essay. The form must be signed by a parent
and/or teacher verifying the original work of the student.
3. The COMPLETED entry form should be attached to the back of a manila folder containing the
essay.
4. The students name should be written on the back of each page in case pages become
separated.
5. Entries may be handwritten or typed.
Kindergarten 25+ words (essay may be handwritten or tape recorded)
Grades1-2
50+ words
Grades 3-5
100+ words
Special Ed
50+ words
Additional information:
Typing:
 Typed entries should be typed by the student on 8 1/2 by 11 white bond paper.
 Entries should be double spaced.
 Use only the front side of paper.
 Multiple pages should be stapled and numbered with name of student on the back of each
page.
 If typed by another person, the handwritten draft should accompany the typed entry.
Handwriting:
 Handwritten entries should be on lined paper in pencil or ink with a space between each
line of writing.
 Handwritten entries should be on front side of paper only.
 Multiple pages should be stapled and numbered with the name of student on the back of
each page.
 NO SPIRAL NOTEBOOK PAPER.
COMPLETED ENTRIES ARE DUE BY JANUARY 29, 2016
