Standard S6E5 e.-Recognize that lithospheric plates constantly move and
cause major geological events on the earth’s surface.
Standard S6E5 f.- Explain the effects of physical processes (plate tectonics,
erosion, deposition, volcanic eruption, gravity) on geological features
including oceans (composition, currents, and tides).
You have been tasked with creating an activity booklet to teach a group of
4th graders at East Gantt Elementary School all about Earthquakes and
Volcanoes. Your job is to create a book full of fun-filled activities that will
engage and inform the students of the who, what, when, where, why, and
how of earthquakes and volcanoes. Some examples of activities might
include: a word search, a crossword puzzle, coloring page, trivia,
comprehension reading and questions, discrepancies pictures (what is wrong
with this picture), plotting earthquakes and volcanoes activity, riddle/joke
page etc.
Your Earthquake and Volcano Booklet must include the following:
1. Cover Page with graphics, Title, and Author’s Name- 10pts
2. Table of Contents-5pts
3. You must include at least 5 quality comprehensive activities in your
booklet. Your activities should demonstrate your knowledge of the
key vocabulary for both Earthquakes and Volcanoes. In addition, you
should incorporate the following questions into your activities:
Earthquakes (1, 12, and 13) and Volcanoes (1, 12, 13, and 14) -50pts.
4. Answer Sheets for each activity-25pts
5. Work’s Cited Page (Bibliography Page)-10pts.
You will be responsible for knowing the information listed below for
Earthquakes and Volcanoes after completing the activity booklet. Let your
creativity shine, do your best, and please by all means approach this as a
learning opportunity. Please utilize the blog; I have included several videos
on Earthquakes and Volcanic activity. This will be due Tuesday, January 8,
2013, when you return from the Winter Break. This will be a summative
assessment grade.
