The Royal Adelaide Hospital is entering a new and exciting phase with the
decision to move to a new hospital on a new central site and the expansion of
activities across acute and the SA community services. This suits the
Department of Thoracic Medicine (DTM) with its core aim being to improve
respiratory health and reduce the social and economic impact to individuals
and the community.
The Department delivers a full range of State-wide and Regional Thoracic
Programs, supported by inpatient, ambulatory and procedural services. It is
involved in policy setting, strategic planning, advocacy and workforce
development including for its own staff. It provides undergraduate,
postgraduate and community education in respiratory disorders. It is involved
in a range of quality improvement initiatives and conducts clinical and basic
research into the causes and management of respiratory disorders. It aims to
be a leader and innovator at local, state, national and international levels in
these areas. It has a team of respiratory physicians, nurses, scientists,
researchers and administrative staff working in a multidisciplinary
environment.
The Department seeks expressions of interest from suitably qualified
respiratory physicians for positions that offer unusual opportunities. Whilst
participating in the general Departmental respiratory activities, these positions
will have responsibility for providing services in specialised areas of
respiratory medicine not readily available elsewhere.
Physician, Respiratory Community Services, DTM (full time, tenured)
This is a new position. The successful applicant will lead in the expansion of a
multidisciplinary community respiratory service (doctors, nurses, allied health

component of the position will be to provide overall clinical management of
the Service. The physician will also participate in and have full access to the
acute care services, procedural, teaching and research activities of the DTM.
The Lead Physician will work closely with clinicians across the Region and its
allied teaching hospitals and community services to design, implement and
manage efficient effective and transparent business systems to support clinical
services across a broad range of areas. These activities will require special
skills in developing new and innovative models of care delivery to create
better community care. A key aim is to support the acute services by providing
