Consultant Physician Positions Department of Thoracic Medicine Royal Adelaide Hospital www.rah.sa.gov.au/thoracic/about/ The Royal Adelaide Hospital is entering a new and exciting phase with the decision to move to a new hospital on a new central site and the expansion of activities across acute and the SA community services. This suits the Department of Thoracic Medicine (DTM) with its core aim being to improve respiratory health and reduce the social and economic impact to individuals and the community. The Department delivers a full range of State-wide and Regional Thoracic Programs, supported by inpatient, ambulatory and procedural services. It is involved in policy setting, strategic planning, advocacy and workforce development including for its own staff. It provides undergraduate, postgraduate and community education in respiratory disorders. It is involved in a range of quality improvement initiatives and conducts clinical and basic research into the causes and management of respiratory disorders. It aims to be a leader and innovator at local, state, national and international levels in these areas. It has a team of respiratory physicians, nurses, scientists, researchers and administrative staff working in a multidisciplinary environment. The Department seeks expressions of interest from suitably qualified respiratory physicians for positions that offer unusual opportunities. Whilst participating in the general Departmental respiratory activities, these positions will have responsibility for providing services in specialised areas of respiratory medicine not readily available elsewhere. Physician, Respiratory Community Services, DTM (full time, tenured) This is a new position. The successful applicant will lead in the expansion of a multidisciplinary community respiratory service (doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, scientists and administration staff) incorporating home care, the existing pulmonary rehabilitation and the development of a rapid community based specialist service. As the senior clinical person in the Service, one component of the position will be to provide overall clinical management of the Service. The physician will also participate in and have full access to the acute care services, procedural, teaching and research activities of the DTM. The Lead Physician will work closely with clinicians across the Region and its allied teaching hospitals and community services to design, implement and manage efficient effective and transparent business systems to support clinical services across a broad range of areas. These activities will require special skills in developing new and innovative models of care delivery to create better community care. A key aim is to support the acute services by providing alternate care delivery options. It is suitable for a Physician interested in a career in clinical and public health TB medicine and also interested in being an active member of a major teaching hospital Thoracic team. It may suit a person with established competency in TB or one interested in developing a career in this area. The Service provides the State-wide TB Control Program, consisting of a public health, a clinical services and the State-wide Mycobacterium Reference Laboratory, a member of the WHO Supranational TB Reference Lab Network. It develops, delivers, coordinates and monitors the State’s TB public health activities. The Service treats and assists in the treatment by other health professionals, of patients with TB infection and disease and teaches health professionals and the community about TB. It conducts research and participates in national and international activities. The successful applicant will provide clinical and public health services for TB patients, provide a consultative service on TB matters (clinical and public health) within the RAH, other hospitals and health practices in SA.
