Matthew 8:26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you
so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the
waves, and it was completely calm.
June 2008
From the Emmaus Lay Director
Hi,
In the last month we have had some major storms and tornados in the area. Now we enter the hurricane season. Back in
India, June is the month of the monsoon rains. One day the
sun is bright and shining and the next - the mood is grey; the
heavens open and the rain pours down! Everything gets disrupted – travel plans, office traffic…. Yet, if one season the
rains do not come as expected, there is drought and the earth
shrivels and this affects the summer harvests.
In our lives too we have storms that come every so often.
These storms tend to be just as destructive as the weather
storms – but like the rains, bring with them the promise and
hope of a rainbow after. And through it all, we know that our
dear Father is with us. Everything has a reason – as everything has a season.
You may have heard the song “Sometimes He Calms the
Storm” which has beautiful lyrics by Scott Krippayne:
Sometimes He calms the storm with a whispered
“Peace, be still”
He can settle any sea, but it doesn't mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close and lets the wind and
waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm and other times He
calms His child
I too had a storm in my life recently. Trying to keep up to
speed with everything in my life was perhaps driving me
crazy! My colleagues at work were not cooperating to help
me meet my deadlines; my music preparation for E 142 was
not completed; I had not been able to finalize the 2009 R
training dates; my relationship was going thru a bad bumpy
phase…. Every time I heard this song on the radio I said –
“Lord, this is a good time for You to calm the storm – settle
these seas that are threatening to engulf me. I no longer can
do this Peace Be Still thing Lord. I am afraid that I will not
be able to do all the things You have asked me to do.”
Yeah, I know… by now I should know better than to tell
God how to do His job!!!
So He answered my prayer, with His typical sense of humor
– I got viral fever which had me laid up for 7-10 days.
Goodbye deadlines, music prep and everything else! As I lay
in bed with a stuffy head and fluctuating fever, I had moments of sanity and clear thinking – He really means it when
he says Be Still. And through it all, He was with me – holding me close, reminding me that the Lord has promised good
to me. Is it coincidence that the theme of E 142 is Whispering Hope?
As the NCA Emmaus community is going through its life,
we too come across some storms that brew dark clouds on
the horizon – we are afraid and scramble to find adequate
means to protect ourselves. Sometimes the storm clouds just
pass us by. At other times we are soaked. But if we continue
to trust in the Lord and have faith in His promise to be our
rock of safety; He will hold us close in the shelter of His
wings. Oh, the joy of knowing that He will do this for each
one of us – not because of what we did or who we are or
what we know – but because He loves us and calls us by
name.
There is a haiku poem I recently read: “Even after all this
time, the sun does not say to the earth – “You owe me”. Only love like that lights up the world.”
Even after all our sins, Jesus does not say to us “You owe
me”. Only love like that can light up the cross.
Have faith and smile through the rain. That may be the only
rainbow some folks will see.
De Colores.

Dear Friends:
“Praise The Lord All The Earth”
Summer, with its days of sunshine, is
here! I hope that you and your loved ones
have made wonderful plans for the coming
weeks. We all need to have something to
look forward to as we go through our demanding daily schedules.
We will be blessed again this summer with
many new visitors to our area and churches. Many of our NCA Emmaus members
will be relocating and many new persons
will be coming, and moving into our
church neighborhoods. It is an exciting
time to be in northern Virginia.
I am encouraging you to be at all of our
events. It is so important to the future of
our ministry that you be here for our
"happenings" to welcome our new members and Guests. Please take your attendance seriously.
We need you to become special friends
with our new members and work with
them until they feel at home. Please be
“The One” God is offering as a special
blessing to our new NCA Emmaus members.

I also am asking you to remember your
community with your gifts during the
months of June, July and August. When
you are gone, the collections are extremely low and we are unable to pay our bills.
Please send your gifts when you are away
and let’s all make a special effort to tithe
one week’s salary during each of the
summer months. If you accepted this
challenge, all of our bills for the summer
months can be paid in full. Please help us
to keep current during the summer
months.
So dear Friends, Please come to each of
our summer events when you are in town
and please financially support the ministry
of your Emmaus community during this
wonderful time of the year! Together, let’s
live with our light on! Let’s, “Get In The
Game!” May God Be Praised!

Whispering Hope
June 5 - 8, 2008
A Message from the "R"
Just as Spring brings a new beginning, so
God brings a new beginning in each one of
us, each day He gives us to live.
Each day God whispers, his grace, forgiveness, love and hope to us, our part is to
stop and listen to the Whispering Hope and
go share His whispers to the people we meet.
There is HOPE as we anticipate Christ coming again
There is HOPE as we rely on God to see us
through each day of our lives.
There is HOPE as we confidently expect God
to keep His promises.
Stop and listen, God is Whispering to you.
