Alumni Civility Hall (Hall 3) JUMP Scholarships
Regulations
Alumni Civility Hall of Cornwall Street Student Residence is committed to the pursuit of wholeperson development. To encourage residents to balance their personal development in academic,
intellectual, social and physical aspects, a scholarship scheme has been established with the
regulations as follows for the academic year 2011/2012:
1.
The Scholarships will be known as the "Alumni Civility Hall JUMP Scholarships”.
2.
The total number of scholarships awarded will be FIVE for each awarding year. The maximum amount
of each scholarship shall not exceed the amount of hall fees payable for one semester of double-room
occupancy during the awarded year.
3.
Payment shall be made to the scholarship recipients by offsetting the recipients’ hall fees payable for
either Semester A or Semester B, whichever is appropriate, of the awarded year. If the scholarship
recipient is not required to pay for the hall fee in the following academic year, the hall- fee grant will
automatically be forfeited.
4.
The Scholarships will be awarded to the Alumni Civility Hall residents who have achieved significant
academic improvements or excellent academic performance and demonstrated an outstanding
contribution to Alumni Civility Hall.

The Scholarships shall be offered to residents with: a.

Significant academic improvement measured by their changes in GPA or excellent academic
performance with an overall GPA of no less than 3.3, and
Contributions to the hostel life in Alumni Civility Hall; and
Other personal achievements or qualities.
All interested applicants should complete an application form and send it to the Residence Master of
Alumni Civility Hall by March each year. An applicant must meet the following requirements:
(1) be a non-final year student at the time of application; and
(2) be a resident of Alumni Civility Hall at the time of application; and
(3) have resided at Alumni Civility Hall for no less than 2 semesters (summer term is not considered);
and
(4) will continue to reside in one of the semesters in Alumni Civility Hall in the following academic
year.

Shortlisted candidates may be requested to have an interview with a selection panel on a date to be
announced later. The selection panel will comprise the Residence Master of Alumni Civility Hall,
Director of SRO or her designate, a member of the Convocation and a faculty member or teaching staff
or other administrative equivalent staff of the university. The results will be announced by May each
year.

All successful awardees are expected to play an active role in organizing academic-related activities in
the following academic year.

Should the scholarship recipient fail to meet the requirements as stated in the Regulations of Hall
Scholarships or violate Code of Student Conduct / Regulations at Student Residence, the scholarship
selection panel reserves the right to withdraw the hall scholarship for the recipient.
Remarks:
1.
The scholarship scheme is not applicable to those residents whose hall fees have already been covered
by any other scholarship / award scheme.
2.
With an objective to nurture our students and to promote caring culture, the Community Relations
Committee of the University Council has recommended that each award recipient is expected to make
an annual donation of at least HK$200 to City University of Hong Kong for student support via CityU
Alumni Giving Club when they are in employment after graduation. This term has been incorporated
into all scholarship/prize/award/bursary schemes, whether they are donated by external donors or
contributed by University funding, with effect from February 2008.

Data Usage
