John Butler is undeniably the most successful independent artist in Australia with sold out performances over
the past two years, not only on home turf but also worldwide, on the heels of the JBT’s highly acclaimed last
albums APRIL UPRISING and GRAND NATIONAL which yielded a #1 U.S. Triple A single “Better Than.”

The Washington Post praised GRAND NATIONAL as “sauntering boogies with an affinity for hip-hop beats”
and Rolling Stone Magazine said “Melody, Subtlety, Authenticity. Sophistication… Butler at his brand new
best, blending his influences into a sound that is all his own…a hip shaking rollicking good-time album, proof
that John Butler is ready to take things to that next level…”

APRIL UPRISING the band’s fifth studio album, released March 26, 2010 featured a new line up of the trio
with prominent Melbourne musician Nicky Bomba (drums, percussion) of ‘Bomba’ fame and principal drummer
on the 5 x platinum SUNRISE OVER SEA album and Byron Luiters from Sydney outfit Ray Man Three (bass).

APRIL UPRISING has achieved incredible results; it became the first USA chart entry for the band with a
debut at #36 on the Billboard Top 200. It also debuted at #8 on the Top digital album chart and #4 on the U.S.
independent labels charts. APRIL UPRISING debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA charts, their 3rd
consecutive album to do so. The album also came in at #17 on the New Zealand charts. France charts
reported the album in at #27 and #8 on the digital charts. APRIL UPRISING has proven to be the JBT’s most
successful release ever in Canada, UK and Japan.

APRIL UPRISING has received the best reviews to date at a global level for the band. Throughout 2010 they
completed a sold out tour through the UK and Europe headlining major theatres and also completed their most
ambitious run of dates in the USA including a sold out headlining concert at Red Rocks Colorado (made
famous by U2’s Under A Blood Red Sky DVD) to a capacity crowd of 8,500, the band’s biggest
headlining concert anywhere and sold out the iconic Central Park Summer Stage concert with a main
stage performance to 5500 fans.

JBT were featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition and performances on Letterman and Tonight Show with
Jay Leno.

First single “One Way Road” started 2010 at #1 on the Australian radio airplay chart; virtually every major radio
station nationwide had the track on high rotation. It is also featured on high rotation as the bedding track for
the whole summer campaign on Australia’s Channel 10’s new digital TV station. Second single ‘Close To You’
was the number one most added song at radio the week of servicing & was the most played track on Aircheck
and D Star.

John Butler was the most played Australian artist on national radio in 2010, and the second most played artist
overall.

Third single “Revolution” was the most added single to Australian radio on servicing.

The John Butler Trio APRIL UPRISING national Australian tour through August/September 2010 was the
band’s largest Australian tour since the release of their multiplatinum SUNRISE OVER SEA album. JBT
played many summer festivals through Canada and Europe and the main stage at the Fuji Rock Festival in
Japan in July 2010 to launch the new album to fans. JBT headline Australian act on the Big Day Out tour in
2011.

In July 2011 the John Butler Trio released LIVE AT RED ROCKS, a stunning box set of their captivating,
largest headline concert ever which took place in June 2010 at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre
in Colorado. This 3 disc package includes 2 Live Audio CD’s plus a DVD showcasing the concert in its
entirety with over 2 hrs of viewing pleasure. The DVD includes special features of behind the scenes
footage, interviews, Traditional Native American dance performances and the official video clip for
“Revolution.”

In May 2012 John Butler returned to his roots to perform a solo tour. He took to the road with his Tin Shed – a
set designed by him including many personal items, his artworks and his old skool skateboard collection. As a
double CD live recording, TIN SHED TALES was released following the tour. It brilliantly captures the intimate
and personal nature of the tour with John performing tracks from his catalogue and sharing anecdotes with the
audience.
 In July and August 2013, John had his most successful tour ever of North America, headlining many
festivals and selling out iconic venues such as Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. This also saw the last

live performances by Nicky Bomba on drums, who decided to concentrate on his own very colourful and
successful project The Melbourne Ska Orchestra.
 In January 2013 John Butler and his management team funded and organised the remarkable Concert for
Kimberley in Australia attracting nearly 20,000 people to the Fremantle (Australia) Esplanade to protest
against the proposed Gas Hub at James Price Point. He was joined by Missy Higgins, Ball Park Music and
Dr. Bob Brown. The tireless work of thousands of activists stopped this venture from going ahead.
 In October 2013 JB has just announced his new drummer Grant Gerathy.
 November 2013 sees JBT headlining Australian iconic festivals such as The Queenscliff Festival in Victoria
and Gorgeous Festival in South Australia.
 February 2014 JBT will release their Sixth studio album FLESH & BLOOD and debut on U.S. label
Vanguard Records. The album will be released simultaneously around the world followed by a
lengthy year of touring.


JBT have become favourites at iconic festivals such as Fuji Rock Festival, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Big Day
Out, and Coachella where Bruce Fessier of USA Today said "John Butler revealed himself to be arguably the
finest guitarist at Coachella Festival."

The Times – (London) commends the live performance during the international release of APRIL UPRISING:
“At the end, Luiters and Butler commandeered a cluster of floor-toms and with Bomba leading the way, they
embarked on a tightly scripted and thrillingly thunderous percussion tattoo. As with everything else about the
show it was a superb piece of musicianship, executed for the entertainment of the audience rather than the
gratification of the musicians.”

John Butler owns and operates his own record label- Jarrah Records— which continues to pave the way for
independent artists in Australia. John Butler is also receiving recognition for his innovative arts grant fund The Seed,
which he oversees with his partner Daniella Caruana. Financed by donations from various sources, The Seed
distributes over $100,000 in grants and funding each year to as many as 30 artists seeking financial assistance to help
