The 2014 SLTB conference hosted by The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London is a special event
celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Society for Low Temperature Biology. The Society’s
membership reflects the diverse specialisms of low temperature science and technology and their
application across many sectors (environmental, biodiversity conservation, clinical biobanking, IVF,
therapeutic medicine).
SLTB meetings generally attract research scientists and practitioners that work in low temperature
biology and apply its technologies and methods in the cryopreservation of cells, tissues, organs and
biospecimens for medical purposes, clinical research biobanking, culture and scientific collections
biopreservation, biodiversity and wildlife conservation (microorganisms, algae, protozoa, fungi, plants,
animals) seed banks, cryobanks and genebanks for sustainable agriculture, forestry, horticulture,
aquaculture, biotechnology and conservation. Society interests include biological materials
refrigeration, preservation of human/animal gametes and embryos for IVF, tissue engineering;
cryotherapy, cryosurgery, natural cold tolerance research, hibernation, natural cryoprotection and
artificial cryoprotectants, cryomicroscopy; cryophysics, ice nucleation/formation, heat transfer, cryoengineering/ instrumentation and thermal analysis.
The conference is expected to attract a 100 or more delegates, invited speakers, practitioners and
students who will share experiences of different areas of low temperature biology. The conference
organizers warmly invite you, your enterprise or company to join the on-site exhibition and/or place a
