Graduate Entry Program
Introduction to Research Methods Pre-requisite
The purpose of the introductory research methods course is to help you understand and apply basic
research principles and procedures of the scientific method. Courses that fulfill this pre-requisite are
typically offered in the Psychology or Sociology department at 4-year colleges or universities and cover
the design, execution, analysis and interpretation of research. The course title of the course should
include “Research Methods”. The following are courses in the Chicago area that fulfill the research
methods pre-requisite for the Graduate Entry Program. This list is not exhaustive and the information is
subject to change. Please note that many of theses courses require prior coursework in Psychology,
Sociology or Statistics, so please plan ahead so that you have time to complete your coursework before
starting the Graduate Entry Program.
This requirement is waived for students who have a master’s or doctoral degree. Students with
documented research experience may also be considered for a waiver on a case-by-case basis.
If you have questions about a research methods course other than one listed below, please submit a
course description and syllabus for evaluation to jkim86@uic.edu.
