Reflections
Yeung Ting Pong, Ronnie
On attending this five-day intensive Train-The-Trainer Programme, I really gain a lot. Since I was
assigned to do the presentation on the module of Creative Thinking, I would like to elaborate a bit
on this aspect. When observing and noticing students’ sense of creativity and innovative ideas, I
believe some higher order thinking questions should be duly asked so as to further stimulate their
plausible reasoning and logical and creative thinking. Moreover, there is no question that further
applications or exploratory activities should also be given in order to consolidate what they have
learnt, through which they could justify their answers.
To conclude, I would like to use a quotation from Scott Adams, “ Creativity is allowing yourself to
make mistakes and art is knowing which ones to keep.” Making mistakes of course is negligible in
compared with inducing students’ creativity and arousing their interests of learning. We welcome
creativity, only to perform like this, it will definitely be encouraged.
Lastly, of course creativity should not de defined as something boundless, I mean anything which is
made to be a piece of art or masterpiece, should at least be confined in some reasonable areas. It is
always worthy to enable the creation following some well-defined rules or regulations, otherwise
the creativity would be easily deviated, and effort would be in vain.
In conclusion, I would like to summarize the module by dropping the following three points :
1. Importance of creativity

“Students of today will be involved in careers and experiences in the future which will
require creative problem-solving skills.” (Reid, 1990)

To be well-prepared for the future, individuals need to be able to explore ideas and solve
problems creatively, rather than simply reproduce existing knowledge.
2. Creativity should not be boundless
 Anything which is made to be a piece of art or masterpiece should at least be confined in some
reasonable areas.
 It is always worthy to enable the creation following some well-defined rules or regulations,
otherwise the creativity would be easily deviated, and effort would be in vain.
3. Innovations VS Conformity
 Quotation from Scott Adams: “ Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes and art is
knowing which ones to keep.”
 We can’t agree more to the above saying, since we believe gifted students should be capable of
attaining the equilibrium between innovations and conformity.
