Checklist for Instructors seeking an
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
at Fort Hays State University
RTG & Associates, Inc. provides this checklist as a tool for JROTC and high school instructors
seeking an Associate’s Degree in General Studies (AGS) – with a concentration in Education
Management; or a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies (BGS) with a concentration in one of
the following areas: Teaching and Learning, Education Management, Health Promotion,
Social Studies, Historical Studies, Science, General Business, or Military Studies . The
opportunities expressed here are solely for the benefit of the Servicemember, and are provided at
no cost to the individual.

__ Request official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities. Have one
sent to your home address, and an official one sent to Fort Hays State University’s Admissions
Office at the following address:

__ If you are enlisted, or have prior enlisted service, go to your Service’s transcript repository by
clicking on one of the following links. Then save that site as a favorite.

NAVY & MARINES: SMART
COAST GUARD: CGIT
These sites provide individual transcripts of ACE recommended college credits for your
individual training and professional experiences while on active duty. Have your service send an
official copy to Fort Hays State University at the address cited above.

opportunities, and when you have completed your review contact your RTG & Associates, Inc.

Fort Hays State University, AGS or BGS. Cost per credit $174 *best opportunity
Empire State College, BA and BS. Cost per credit $207, (all extraneous fees currently waivered
for Military – active, retired, reserves and national guard)
Excelsior College, AAS and BS. Cost per credit $315 - $425, plus heavy fees
Rio Salado College, AAS, Teacher Certification Prep. Cost per credit $125**

Each of these schools has in addition to tuition costs, various fees. The lowest costs exist with
Fort Hays State University, Rio Salado College, and Empire State College-CDL. You need to
complete your own due diligence to make a decision that is best for you and your family’s
financial situation, and whatever financial support you have from the GI Bill, VA VocReHab,
Troops to Teachers, or even tuition reimbursement from your school district.
Example One: Fort Hays State University for AGS Degree with concentration in Educational
Management
1. Send to Mrs. Debbie Staab, our point of contact at Fort Hays State University, an official
transcript from all previously attended colleges/universities in accordance with the fax cover
sheet located on this site: Fort Hays State University. Then go to this website immediately and
complete a FHSU Admissions Application. You must pay a $30 application/admissions fee (one
time only) upon completing the application.
2. Once you receive their provisional or official review. Contact your RTG Mentor (seek para 3
below). RTG and Associates, Inc. will immediately prepare an Education Plan tailored to your
academic needs and financial support available from any eligible source: GI Bill, VA Vocational
Rehabilitation, Troops to Teachers, or even your own school district if available.
3. While you are waiting for a response from Fort Hays State University, continue your own
academic due diligence and funding investigations on the Internet; and by applying for your
benefits from the VA. Questions, communicate with your RTG Mentor:
a. For Army, call Harold Tucker at 501-859-6113.
b. For Air Force/Navy/USMC/Coast Guard, call Kenneth Denman at 719-581-9496.
Example Two: Fort Hays State University for BGS Degree with concentration in Educational
Management, Teaching and Learning, Social Studies, Historical Studies, Science, Health
Promotion, General Business, or Military Studies.

previously attended colleges/universities in accordance with the Letter of Intent located on this
site: Fort Hays State University. Then go to this website immediately and complete a FHSU
Admissions Application. You must pay a $30 application/admissions fee (one time only) upon
completing the application.
2. Once you receive their provisional or official review. Contact your RTG Mentor (seek para 3
below). RTG and Associates, Inc. will immediately prepare an Education Plan tailored to your
