Homework rarely takes more than 20 minutes. It usually consists of the following:
 Up to 4 pullout packet sheets (with approx 8 questions each) from the front of “WAVA”
workbook
 A combination of 2 pullout grammar sheets and 2 pullout WAVA writing activities (which usually
imitate the test writing portion worth 10-15 points)
 GP workbook vocab flashcards and “fans”. Do odd pages 1st (Spanish to English). Check with a
different color. Do even-numbered pgs as a true self-test (English to Spanish). Double fold.
Check with grading color. Going through the process helps solidify the understanding. Copying
definitions onto the interactive fans doesn’t help you learn very much.
 GP workbook grammar explanation and basic practice pages (usually only a front / back)
 Vocabulary translations for context conversations or videohistoria (from text book)
 On-line practices for vocab or grammar (Note the assigned web-code and print out your proof)
 Occasional writing or translation (10-15) based on current grammar concept
B. Other daily grades include, but are not limited to:
Quizzes: ~3 per chapter: 1 vocabulary recognition (20 matching / Verdad-Falso / word bank questions)
2 or 3 production quiz/es (grammar concepts and vocab in context w/out hints)
Oral participation:
10 oral interactions per quarter (volunteer answer from warm-up or lesson, read
text w/grammar or culture info, translate, present partner practice model for
speaking activity, participation in matamoscas, excellent effort on partner
practice, etc) Aim for 1x/week!! [double value = quiz]. Easy and fun!
Study tool:
chapter vocabulary words copied 3x in Spanish (English definition 1x) = single daily
grade 100/ first day, 70/ second day, 50/ any day following. May also include the words from p. 472-3
(Uno) or p. 498-9 (Dos) according to the Tema. Copy the verb box/es once with accurate labels. The
excellence of the grade is based on quality of work plus good heading & accurate title [Tema # A/B Vocabulario – página xxx]
Individual practice sheets (copies or workbook pages) that have independent importance for independent
grade
On-line Practices (Web codes): Throughout each unit, web codes will be assigned for your help with that
specific objective. You need to do them as best you can, even multiple times to score the best grade
possible. If you do them the day they are assigned, you will reinforce the current topic of learning and
earn the assigned points.
The best way to show your effort is to print out the results. Hit “Control + print screen” and take a picture
of the page, then paste it (or “Control + V) onto a Word document. The page must show the “results” or
score and the few problems on the screen. It needs to be larger than 10-font to read. Place your name on
the paper and turn it in when Teacher checks for HW or indicates otherwise.
Quarterly Notebook Check:
Keep yourself organized!!!
C. Major Grades: You will have at least one major grade each quarter that displays your oral
communication (“speaking”) skills as well as periodic district assessments. The aim is for your
assessments to be in varying formats, such as traditional test, project, oral production, written essay.
OTHER HINTS and REMINDERS:
HOMEWORK POSTERS: Are located on each side of the board for the Dos and Uno classes,
respectively. The assignments are up to date and are cleaned off only each Monday. When you [are
absent] need to know what the HW from last night was, check the posters. Also check the absent folder.
Make arrangements with Teacher for any make up work as needed!!! PLEASE ask BEFORE class Starts!
Help Yourself and Help Others: Throughout the year we all need facial tissues, especially during the
sick season. Your class will be assigned to bring either a box of tissues, a set of markers, a package of
construction paper, or a few glue sticks. In exchange, you will receive an excused HW pass or additional
“RR pass”. You and your classmates should provide _____________________ by ______________.
Pasaporte: This is a personalized pass to leave the room for emergency RR or water or book retrieval in
locker. You must have the Pasaporte in your hand and make the request in Spanish in order to be
acknowledged. Teacher reserves the right to deny use depending on timing in lesson / class period,
frequency of use, only one opportunity remaining, or any other professionally determined reason. Any
passes not used by the semester exam can be counted toward the exam writing grade IF you bring it with
you TO the EXAM PERIOD.
TUTORIALS by the Spanish National Honor Society (SNHS).
Take advantage of these free tutorials on a regular basis. These students have all completed level 3 and
are probably taking level 4 or 5. They can help you gain better understanding or help you study. Look
for the signs announcing the review session (Hora de Repaso).
