PRESS RELEASE
11th May 2005
Axis launches first Network Video Recorder at
IFSEC
Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, today announced the
launch of its first network video recorder (NVR). The AXIS 262 NVR supports up to eight
Axis network cameras (or via Axis video servers up to eight analogue cameras) to offer Axis
customers an ‘all-in-one’ Axis-branded surveillance and monitoring solution which is ideal
for small to medium-sized and multi-site businesses where bandwidth across a Wide Area
Network (WAN) is limited. Likely markets include franchise retail businesses, service
stations, hotels and office networks.
Dominic Bruning, managing director of Axis Communications UK commented:
“The AXIS 262 can be installed in remote sites to provide live images from specific cameras or
recorded images direct from its hard disk, following security incidents or as part of routine
monitoring activities. This sort of configuration is ideal where no management time is available
locally to investigate and manage surveillance footage.
“The NVR also supports a wide range of Axis network cameras including those with PTZ, PoE
and megapixel capabilities as well as existing analogue cameras via Axis video servers.”
The AXIS NVR 262 also offers multiple integration options for Axis’ Application Development
Partners. The AXIS 262 can be integrated into a third party application for remote monitoring to
an alarm receiving centre (ARC) It can also be configured to feed into sector-specific applications
such as foot-fall analysis and point of sales applications in retail outlets.
Live viewing of all the cameras as well as play-back of recorded data can be accessed via the
integrated web-based server. The AXIS 262 NVR will also allow data from its built-in 160 GB
Hard Disk Drive to be extracted to any local PC in order to save images to removable media such
as CD-R/RW or DVD media.
Benefits of the new system include:
 Provision for up to eight network cameras from the Axis range including wireless,
megapixel, Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) and Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras. The flexibility
to select individual cameras will allow installations to perfectly align with the customer’s
requirements, going beyond what is possible using a Digital Video Recorder (DVR)
 Motion-JPEG recording at a minimum of 100 frames per second in VGA + 4CIF mode
 Support for all recording modes such as scheduled, manual and triggered recording where
the trigger comes from the network camera or video server
 The system offers resolutions up to three times higher than analogue-based DVR systems
selling at a similar price point.
The AXIS 262 NVR will have a recommended retail price of £1,993 and will be available from
July 2005. The system will be demonstrated for the first time at IFSEC 2005 (16th – 19th May).
