United Nations Consultative Meeting to
Review the Draft Guidelines for Producing Statistics on Violence against Women
8-10 November 2011

Programme of Work
The meeting’s sessions will start at 8:30 in the morning and will run until 4:00 in the afternoon, with a
one-hour lunch break around 12:15 pm and one or two coffee breaks. The total number of sessions
corresponds to the total number of chapters of the draft Guidelines for Producing Statistics on Violence
against Women – that is, six chapters plus Annex III – recommended tabulations. Thus the need for a
flexible work programme as chapters are of different lengths and some sessions will run longer than
others.
Day 1 – 8 November: Chapters 1, 2 and 3
8:30 – Opening
8:45 – Organizational matters
9:00 – Introduction and background (UNSD)
9:20 AM : 4:00 PM – Chapters 1, 2 and 3
Day 2 – 9 November: Chapters 4 and 5
9:00 AM : 4:00 PM – Chapters 4 and 5
Day 3 – 10 November: Chapter 6 and Annex III
9:00 AM : 4:00 PM - Chapter 6 and Annex III
Format of the sessions
Each session will start with a short (5 to 15 minutes, depending on the content) presentation on the
session’s chapter, delivered by UNSD. It will be followed by a discussion (5-15 minutes) by a lead
discussant(s). Then the floor will be open for general discussion and comments. Finally, and depending
on the needs, the meeting will go paragraph by paragraph in reviewing the text of the Guidelines. The
list of lead discussant(s) is as follows:
Chapter 1: UN Women, UNECE
Chapter 2: Egypt
Chapter 3: Bulgaria
Chapter 4: Italy
Chapter 5: Kenya
Chapter 6: Armenia, WHO
Annex III – Recommended tabulations: Mexico
