Procedure
Part 1
1.
Place 5 mL of a lead nitrate solution into a test tube and note its physical
properties.
2.
Place 5 mL of a potassium iodide solution in a test tube and note its physical
properties.
3.
Mix the two solutions in 1 of the test tubes the physical properties of the
mixture
4.
Let the mixture stand for five minutes and note any changes.
5.
Rinse the test tubes and clean the station.
Part 2
1.
Place 5 mL of an acetic acid solution in a test tube and note the properties.
2.
Take a sample of sodium bicarbonate and note its properties.
3.
Add the sodium bicarbonate to the acetic acid and note the changes.
4.
Rinse the test tubes and clean the station
Part 3
1.
Take a sample of copper sulfate crystals and note its properties.
2.
Place the copper sulfate into a test tube containing 5 mL of water.
3.
Place a rubber stopper on the test tube and shake until the copper sulfate is
dissolved.
4.
KEEP THIS TEST TUBE FOR PARTS 4 AND 5.
Part 4
1.
Place 15 drops of the copper sulfate solution into an evaporating dish.
2.
Place the dish on the metallic ring.
3.
slowly heat up the dish until all the water has evaporated.
4.
What is in the dish? Let the dish cool down before cleaning it
Part 5
1.
Take a sample of steel wool and note its properties
2.
place the sample of steel wool into the test tube containing copper sulfate
solution.
3.
Let stand for 5 minutes and note the changes.
4.
Dispose of the liquid in the sink and the steel wool in the garbage can.
Part 6
1.
Place 5 mL of hydrochloric acid in a test tube and note its properties.
2.
Take a sample of calcium carbonate and note its properties
3.
Place the calcium carbonate into the hydrochloric acid test tube and note any
changes.
4.
dispose of the mixture in the sink and rinse and clean station.
Part 7
1. Place 5 mL of a barium chloride solution in a test tube and note its properties.
2. Place 5 mL of a zinc sulfide solution in a test tube and note its properties.
3. Mix the two solutions and note the properties. (let stand for 5 minutes)
4. Rinse test tubes and clean station.
Part 8
1.
Place 5 mL of hydrochloric acid in a test tube and note its properties
2.
Take a sample of magnesium and note its properties.
3.
Place the magnesium in the hydrochloric acid and note the changes
4.
Rinse test tube and clean station
Part 9
1.
Place 5 mL of distilled water in 2 test tubes identified as 1 and 2.
2.
Take a sample of ammonium chloride and note its properties.
3.
Place the ammonium chloride into test tube 2. Put a stopper on the test tube
and shake softly.
4.
Compare the two test tubes. Note the properties.
5.
Rinse the test tubes and clean station.
