Political Science Research Resources

Circulating Books
On-campus and off-campus, to find circulating books on political science topics using your key
words or ideas:
Go to the Kean University Library Homepage, http://library.kean.edu .
Click Kean Catalog.
Scroll and enter your key words in the search box underneath Find This:
Click Search.
Scroll down to view the Search Results list.
Circulating titles are located in the Main Collection on the second and third floors of the Kean
University Library.
Make note of the call number for any titles of interest.
Reference Books
Listed below are handy reference titles provided for quick look-up by call number in the
Reference Collection. The first column displays the reference call number. The second column
displays the corresponding title on the first floor of the library.

It is recommended that you use the EBSCOhost Research Databases, WilsonWeb, Ethnic
Newswatch, etc. available on-campus, to identify and retrieve scholarly political science
articles. Brief directions are provided on the next pages to help you navigate these different
electronic databases.
EBSCOhost
To search EBSCOhost for scholarly political science
articles using your key terms:
Go to the Library Homepage, http://library.kean.edu.
Click Databases.
Proceed and click EBSCOhost.
Click EBSCOhost Web.
Select Academic Search Premier and MasterFile.
Click Continue.
Enter your key terms in the search box underneath Find:
You can combine terms to retrieve items that contain all of the
terms using the “and” operator. Use the asterisk (*) character
to replace the ending of your key words to retrieve items with
similar word roots.
For example, try entering: capital punishment and gender*
Also, to limit your retrieved results to articles reviewed or
judged by scholars in the field (in other words, scholarly or
peer reviewed articles), scroll down and select Peer Reviewed.
Click Search.
Result: First 10 retrieved headlines will be displayed.
Examine retrieved items.
If the full-text article is available online for a specific item, you
will see a HTML Full Text link, a PDF Full Text link, or both
immediately below the item. Click either the HTML Full Text
link or PDF Full Text link to view the full-text article.
Also, to e-mail the article you are currently viewing, click Email at the top of your screen.
Click Results List to go back to your list of retrieved results.
WilsonWeb
To search WilsonWeb for scholarly political science
articles using your key terms:
Go to the Library Homepage, http://library.kean.edu.
Click Databases.
Proceed and click WilsonWeb.
Select OmniFile Full Text Mega.
Select Legal (ILP) instead of All from the Subject Area dropdown menu.
Enter your key terms in the first search box.
For example, try entering: capital punishment and gender*
Also, to limit your retrieved results to articles reviewed or
judged by scholars in the field (in other words, scholarly or
peer reviewed articles), select Peer Reviewed.
Click Start.
Result: First 10 retrieved headlines will be displayed.
Examine retrieved items.
If the full-text article is available online for a specific item, you
will see a blue page icon immediately to the left of the item.
Click the blue page icon to view the full-text article.
Also, to e-mail the article you are currently viewing, click the
blue-colored Print Email Save button on the left-hand side of
your screen.
Ethnic Newswatch
To search Ethnic Newswatch for political science articles
using your key terms:
Go to the Library Homepage, http://library.kean.edu.
Click Databases.
Click Vale.
Click Databases.
Select Ethnic Newswatch from the right-hand column.
Click English.
Enter your key terms in the Words in Article search box.
For example, to search for articles about the relationship
between race and capital punishment, try entering: capital
punishment and rac*
Click Submit Search.
Result: First 10 retrieved headlines will be displayed.
Examine retrieved items.
Click on the headline title to access the full-text article.
Also, to e-mail the article you are currently viewing, scroll and
click the yellow EMAIL icon at the bottom of your screen.
GenderWatch
To search GenderWatch for political science articles
using your key terms:
Go to the Library Homepage, http://library.kean.edu.
Click Databases.
Click Vale.
Click Databases.
Select GenderWatch from the right-hand column.
Click Continue.
Enter your key terms in the Words in Article search box.
For example, try entering: capital punishment and gender*
Click Submit Search.
Result: First 10 retrieved headlines will be displayed.
Examine retrieved items.
Click on the headline title to access the full-text article.
Also, to e-mail the article you are currently viewing, scroll and
click the yellow EMAIL icon at the bottom of your screen.
Lexis-Nexis
To search Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe for law
reviews using your key terms:
Go to the Library Homepage, http://library.kean.edu.
Scroll and click Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe.
Click Legal Research.
Click Law Reviews.
Enter your key terms in the Keyword search box.
For example, try entering: capital punishment and gender*
Click Search.
Result: First 25 retrieved headlines will be displayed.
Examine retrieved items.
Click on the headline title to access the full-text article.
Also, to e-mail the article you are currently viewing, click the
red Email tab at the right-hand top of your screen.
